I've had 5, all associated with a procedure to remove acute clots when I first cloted and then procedures to remove chronic clots. They really are painless procedures and generally very safe. I'm planning on having another one just before I come off Xarelto later this year just to make sure that my veins are clear enough from Chronic Clots that the risk of reclotting is as low as it can be due to vein obstruction. They really do give the doctor the best view of what is going on inside your veins.

Had my venogram procedure today. It was an interesting experience to say the least - it was conscious sedation but I am figuring out that I take a lot more meds than the typical person to have an effect on me. For instance, 50mg of benedryl does nothing to me...

Anyway, he went in through my upper left arm and did find that not only was my interior jugular clotted but a few other veins as well. He addressed my port, and as suspected, it is no longer viable. He then accessed my right jugular and ran tests on it to make sure it had good flow. Thankfully, it did.
His next plan was to take out the non functioning port on the left side and place a new one on the right.
Just as he got ready to cut on the left port, he asked if I had done a lovenox shot this morning, of which I had bc they had not told me not to.
He was glad he asked bc he was not going to risk it - I had been off coumadin since Monday and bridging with lovenox but didn't want to take a chance one bleeding out too much.
I will go back in 3 wks to finish the procedure.
