Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Support Group
Deep-vein thrombosis, also known as deep-venous thrombosis or DVT, is the formation of a blood clot ("thrombus") in a deep vein. It can be caused by something preventing blood from circulating or clotting normally. Join the support group if you are coping with DVT and find others who are going through the same challenges.
Fragmin is a Low-Molecular Weight Heparin just like Lovenox. Here in the U.S. Fragmin is used for Cancer patients at risk of DVT where as Lovenox is marketed for DVT/PE treatment. It's all in the way it is marketed and approved by the FDA. Both medications could be used laterally but the way they initially presented to the FDA determines who they will be approved for use. That doesn't mean that doctors will not use Fragmin for patients other then Cancer Patients, it's just means that treatment of Cancer Patients is how the medication was approved for use.
The newer oral anticoagulants coming out both this year and next will likewise be marketed for specific medical conditions/ treatments other then just post DVT/PE treatment (hip/knee replacement, Atrial Fib as example).
