Fragmin anybody taken?

Hi My Dr has suggested when I travel long haul I take a shot of Fragmin both ways....has anybody tried this before? does it work?

Fragmin is the equivalent of Lovenox, just another Low Molecular Weight Heparin (LMWH) also known as Dalteparin.

*Dalteparin is a type of low molecular weight heparin and belongs to a class of medications called anticoagulants or antithrombotic agents. These medications help prevent blood clots from forming or from getting bigger, but they do not dissolve existing blood clots.

The dosage is specific to your weight (body weight), it does work well as an anticoagulant, I was on it for three months.

One thing I forgot to mention, Fragmin worked well for me, it does not mean it will be the same for you, people react so differently to the same drug, it's amazing how it differs from one to another.

Took Fragmin with my first DVT (although I took Lovenox with repeat DVT and PEs) before getting stable on warfarin and had no problems with it. I mean, I only took it for about a week, but still...

My FIL has had multiple DVTs and his doc has suggested he come off warfarin and just do shots when he travels (and he travels internationally A LOT). He wasn't comfortable with it and prefers to be covered by warfarin at all times.

However, if you're not on warfarin long-term, then taking heparin before travel might make sense for you. Just depends on what you are comfortable with. Best wishes!
