Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Support Group
Deep-vein thrombosis, also known as deep-venous thrombosis or DVT, is the formation of a blood clot ("thrombus") in a deep vein. It can be caused by something preventing blood from circulating or clotting normally. Join the support group if you are coping with DVT and find others who are going through the same challenges.
I mean, there aren't really any doctors who specialize ONLY in blood clots. Hematologists are pretty close, but not all of them are super familiar with blood clots or recovery from them. The real question is, what kind of information are you looking for? That'll help you figure out what kind of specialist to see.
I mean, I saw a cardiologist and a pulmonologist after my PEs, but that was ONLY because I had other issues pop up with my blood pressure. If you don't have recovery complications that you're worried about, I think I'd avoid signing up for extra appointments.
Not sure what to do. Not really happy with my GP, and friends are encouraging me to see a hematologist.
I don't know what other factors or docs to consider. I have moderately high BP on meds for that. My heart has skipped a beat occasionally for years, but EKGs have said my heart is ok, and the docs said not to worry about it.
So I could start with a hematologist I guess.
Just want someone to help me investigate this and see if we can get to the bottom of it and avoid any more episodes.
I saw my hemo exactly twice, once after my second DVT and once after my PEs. He's a nice guy and we went over the results of all the bloodwork he'd ordered (done well before my appointment), discussed future treatment, and etc. I know some folks see their hemos much more long-term, but that isn't how it worked out for me. Of course, I really like my primary doctor.
Truthfully, many people don't see any specialists, but since you've clotted twice in six months, I think I'd check in with a hemo.

Billy... definitely look into Tom's recommendation.
TnT, good to see you still active on this site, hope all is well on your end? My plate has been full since being asked back to NBCA so I only occasionally pop in and try to answer question like this these days. Other than that, all is well. Going on three years since switching from Coumadin to Xarelto, so far so good.
