The 5gm wafarin pill produced by TARO has dyes in it that caused me to break out in hives over half my body. I contacted the manufacturer and got the names of the dyes, just info for other who may have had that problem:

D&C yellow #10 aluminum lake and
D&C red #6 barium lake

So glad they figured it out. I'm curious, did you switch to coumadin or a find out how to get it from another source that doesn't cause the same issue for you?

I switched to the 10mg pill (half of it that is) because it's the only one that has no dyes.

I had a reaction to dyes (but not as extreme!) So I, too, went to the 10 mg, which I broke into quarters. That did the trick. I'm off it altogether now, but was relieved and more comfortable with the white.

Glad to say that the hives disappeared completely. It was pretty awful there for a while. Just glad my doc was quick in getting me the 10mg prescription after I said I thought the dye was the problem. Not going near that 5mg again!

Also glad to hear your reaction wasn't as bad. But hopefully more people will understand the dye can cause problems - it's enough that we're now on coumadin without having to deal with an allergic reaction!
