Hi everybody,
This week I had a doppler scan, after 6 months of warfarin and compression stockings (I had a femoral-popliteal DVT in the end of July but diagnosed in mid August). Here are the results:
Popliteal shows thickening of vein wall, but, in spite of that, it presents good compressibility; diminution of spontaneous blood flow but without significant valve insufficiency; without any other problems. Conclusion: Good evolution of DVT. Blood flow is reestablished in the popliteal and it shows only retardation of the flux.
I asked: what about the femoral vein? And they (I showed the results to two different vascular surgeons) said it was ok; just that. I asked if the blood flow was good there, if there was thickening of the vein wall but both only said that the vein was ok. I wasnt much convinced, I must say. For what Ive read in the report only the popliteal seemed to matter! Anyway, the truth is that my leg is way much better now. Some days I have some discomfort but I cant call it pain. The swelling lessened a lot too. The difference between the two legs is now half a centimeter. Of course I notice it, my mother notice it too because she followed all the process, she knows where to look for the difference, but other people cant notice that easily. But I ALWAYS wear my compression stockings! I dont know how the leg will respond without them. I was allowed to wear knee-high compression stockings (till now I only wore compression hose or thigh-high) but I havent bought a pair yet. Both doctors told me to try a day without the compression stockings to see the result but I havent had the courage to do that yet. Especially because Im off warfarin since Tuesday! I was SO, SO scared now Im calmer. I feel free without the food restrictions. That is so good. I havent felt any difference concerning the leg (no more pain or swelling, just the same as before) since I stopped the medication. However the idea of not wearing the compression stocking scares me so, so much. Im feeling better now, with more energy (warfarin made me feel so exhausted), and I know that if I take off the stockings and the leg starts swelling or hurting, I will go down again, so Im avoiding that, out of pure fear
Im waiting to be called to do the blood tests (so many of them!), but my primary doctor said that sometimes people have to wait almost or more than a month to be called. Shush! So much time! And then one more month (or more) waiting for the results! Until there I dont know if I have a blood problem and I have to live with that doubt and without warfarin. That scares me a lot!

Sounds like a great result. Congrats on being able to close the door on that last chapter. My ultrasound results were actually similar to yours in that they read "some changes" in vein wall. I was like.......COME ON!!! TRY JUST A LITTTTTLE BIT HARder over here behind that desk lololol.....if you arent comfortable being with stockings and dont care, stick with them until after the blood tests.
I know they are a hassle, but actually they have kind of grown on me. My legs are less swollen at the end of the day and i ink that when off my xarelto, i will find myself wearing them more than originally thought....summer will be hard though :(
