Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Support Group
Deep-vein thrombosis, also known as deep-venous thrombosis or DVT, is the formation of a blood clot ("thrombus") in a deep vein. It can be caused by something preventing blood from circulating or clotting normally. Join the support group if you are coping with DVT and find others who are going through the same challenges.
The clot I have in that leg is chronic and its still there. Even so, I don't have pain or discomfort or discoloration or anything. The leg is a bit larger than the other (about an extra inch around) but that's really it. No other residual issues.
I think a lot of people keep improving and changing well past six months. And I'll tell you I really didn't even wear my stockings after the first four weeks or so.
And yeah, I would think the cold could make DVT pain worse, especially if it is pretty severe cold. I know lots of people have increases in pain this time of year. Just back up a little and try to keep it elevated a little more. Maybe light heat if your doc is OK with it.
Have you considered trying to walk inside a local mall or something? Less cold, but still an opportunity to get that exercise.
Me personally, I would think you still have lots of time for improvement and healing, especially if you're only four months out from diagnosis. Hang in there!
Glad to here there still may be improvement in my leg. I just hate the cramps burning feeling but guess I will get use to it.
I had clots in the same veins, and I continued recovering. I'd say I was between 6 and 9 months when I got back to normal. I came off coumadin at month 7 without problems. I do whatever I want (within reason) and my DVT leg is only noticeably larger to me. I still get some cramps and flutters, but that's because there's permanent damage, not something wrong.
You'll continue to heal and learn what the new normal is for you. Continue to listen to your body and do what you can (sleep, healthy eating, exercise) to keep its repair system functional.
Sending good wishes your way!
