He cooks up won tons by the dozen, lost.. or used to.. and I did love them. You are right though, I dont care for dumplings.

Well, not in MY house they are not the same. Won Tons are made with pork and then deep fried. They are crispy and really good. Dumplings are made with bisquit stuff or dough or whatever and are just put in and cooked that way in the sauce. I dont like dumplings but I love won tons.. just the opposite of you, Lost <G>

won tons are chinese dumplings - - they are some kind of dough with pork inside. Dumplings can be made/ordered fried too. In my other life I ordered fried won tons (dumplings) in chinese restaurants For Jews, they are called krephach - also dough with or without meat inside. Never heard of fried pork. You say they have no taste, but they are served with a soy sauce based sauce and/or hot mustard. We have them in soup instead of matzah balls,

The ones I have are made with a square of dough.. you put pork inside and also some beef sometimes. You bring the ends of the dough up to make a triangle. You then deep fry them and serve them with plum sauce. They are SO good.. The chinese done make them here though. I will have to ask Keith who makes them, but I am pretty sure it isnt the chinese.

That's what Chinese wontons are. In soup they are not fried but you can order then fried as an appetizer. Didnt you ever hear of wonton soup - all Chinese restaurants serve that with Chinese noodles. (I wish I could eat that now) Outside of eggdrop, wonton is the only other soup they serve.

ok.. I asked Keith.. You are right, Arline.. they are Chinese. They are NOT like dumplings, however. He said dumplings are a lot of dough, like perogies. Won tons are a thin small piece of dough and filled with pork and beef and five spiced. The corners are then folded in and they are deep fried and served with plum sauce.mmmm good!
