I know Jordan.. isnt it awful? That is EXACTLY how it was for me too when I was in the hospital.. I dont think I was on a diabetic diet at all, yet that is what it said... too many carbs and hardly any protein.. lots of pasta, potatos, rice and bread. I guess they are cheaper and they can feed more.. but why tell us that it is a diabetic diet then? I couldnt take my own blood sugar either. All of my diabetic stuff was at home. They gave me insulin but I never knew how much or even what my bs was, unless I asked. You have to really be proactive when you are in there. What were you in the hospital for? Nothing serious, I hope.

I am going to likely buy the hot low salt seasoning and try it out since it has 65 mg of salt and I like my Catsup which has 1g of carbo or sugar in it and its very good. Yes, eating out costs $$$$ and is very unhealthy, but knowing this most people and even me, mostly igore the bad part of eating out, but I am much more likely to eat out less healthy than when I am at home. This was something I overlooked previously, so Thank-you for sharing this with all of us.

Well, I guess if you are going to eat out, Vernon, you want to enjoy it, since it doesnt happen very often. At least when you do it, you get right back on your program and monitor your blood sugar. :)

Normally I eat the french fries and NOT onion rings since that can bring my blood sugar much higher and yet it has been some time and so I had onion rings, Thank-you for the positive point of view. I am going to check my blood sugar after 6:30-7:30 PM my time tonight, but it will be time to get the right blood sugar. I have lots of apples and they lowered my blood sugar and are good for losing weight too although I loved the taste of them which is why I get them, why not enjoy the yummy things and be healthier too since I love to mix them into healthier living too. My pastor brought me some strong orange scented moping stuff and roach spray which was a blessing since I need to clean up for management since I have problems with the roaches and I have the management looking on the AC to fix it since it was soaking the floor since it was leaking so much. I know you were agreeing with me mostly so I hope I didn't seem upset with you since I was just sharing my view and the blessings.

French fries or onion rings? I would take onion rings too and maybe an order of fries. I mean if I am going to eat out, I am going to enjoy it! That is why I dont go out much :)

The management man said to run the AC all night, the AC would have the floor wet from leaking. I find my blood sugar goes higher with onion rings than french fries, but I love the french fries to be crispy too. The man will come and see what he can do on Thursday morning. My blood sugar was 8:20 AM 96bs 8:45 AM 105bs 7:55 PM 152bs and that was from eating onion rings earlier so this is normal for me for onion rings, so I mostly eat the french fries more since I know it will be higher. I got roach spray and strong stuff to mop which is orange scented and my pastor gave it to me since they don't need it, what a blessing for me. Which would make your blood sugar go higher, onion rings or french fries, mine rarely goes this high.

Sunn - frozen veggies are ok - don't think they put anything in them. However, I prefer fresh - tastes a lot better - AND with so much CarbSmart in the freezer, who has room for frozen veggies !!!

I can afford more of the canned, but the news says stuff 'leaches' into the food so they are trying to keep people like me from buying lower priced veggies, since I don't buy much of frozen and fresh is nearly 100% out of the question for me at least.

Onion rings make my bs go up high, but so do french fries if they are deep fried. If they are not deep fried, then the onion rings would make it go higher, vernon

I eat mostly fresh vegetable, but during winter months, I get frozen. It isnt the same as fresh, but a lot better than canned which I find mushy and a lot of salt is added :)

Vernon. you shouldn't be eating french fries or onion rings??? Aren't you on Medicade and get food stamps?
I know food is expensieve but eating out is no excuse to eat that stuff ever.....Maybe you just need a better plan in shopping. Can we help you in some way, is there anything we can do to help?

I normally eat out only once a month and I love it. I did nearly run out of food, but my mom comes over and we eat out rarely since she has to have money and feel well enough for it. I have some food from the store and I got, not going to make you happy, but I got some tater tots and I love them much more than french fries and I bake them and first I apply some potassium on them first. I can't stay home all of the time and I was shopping for an hour and I got some expensive nuts too. I am on Medicaid and Food Stamps which is not for low income, but for the people who are officially disabled since I know others have to go through the ringer for both of them. I am not sure what you mean by help, I am supposed to get some socks and shoes, but I want the right socks for my feet, so I am siting here for awhile.

Wally World sells the no salt or the low salt and I get them and I have told them of my gratitude for this, I love onions which are purple, the Food TV people say they are red, but I call them purple. I find the 'fresh' goes bad quicker and I got a lot of 'fresh' corn and most of it went into the trash and can corn for an example was useful and so I normally like it, but the greens are good, but the 'fresh' are often under rinsed and I don't have the same problem as before. I am not going to imply you should not eat fresh if you can afford it.

Fresh IS better for you, Vernon, but sometimes we just cant afford the fresh. I buy the frozen, if I cant get the fresh and it is better. The canned all have too much salt and taste mushy to me.

I think what Sunny meant is could we help you with your diet because it seems there are things that you shouldnt be eating such as juices, corn and tater tots. Any way we could help, such as giving you a shopping or food plan. I think that is what she meant.:)

I think from what I have seen is the quick made like oven baked frozen stuff which often has about 1,000 to 1,600 mg per sample which is commonly known as 'serving' and most people eat at least 1 1/2 of these, its a disgrace for so much salt and my figures are likely on the lower side. Its hard to find foods which are safe for people, and leads to high blood pressure and that's very serious to the heart.

Thank-you for caring and wanting to help, but most of the 'healthy' foods are more expensive and I don't buy. The people in my state are starting to get a clue about those on food stamps and why are more likely to be overweight since they get so little money they get what they can afford and not what they are told is healthy. Walnuts are claimed to be best and very much expensive, but I got Cashews and Almonds are affordable so that's what I buy with my food stamps. I love Pistachios, but they are always it seem to have Salmon and E-Cola so I don't trust them and they are hard to find a good price.

Yes, Vernon.. all the packaged and canned foods are FULL of salt. I know it is hard when you are on food stamps to get anything fresh. Almonds are suppose to be one of the best nuts and nuts are good for you too, as long as they arent salted. :)
