I have had to limit my salt and fluid intake for years. I am only allowed 1500mg of salt a day and only 2 litres of fluid, which includes any soups, jellos, puddings, things like that. I dont use salt in any of my cooking and never sprinkle it on anything. I dont use processed foods, since they are full of salt.
but forced myself to walk away.
I am now just sitting here thinking, I would just love a F"k&n Bacon sandwich
I agree that folks who eat at restaurants should be able to add what salt they require, and not have it already in the food. Otherwise, this is one more case of the government getting too far into our lives.
I have to watch my salt intake because of heart problems. If I eat too much salt, I will retain fluid, which pools around my heart and lungs and I find it hard to breathe, or even walk, because my feet swell too.
I think too much salt causes high blood pressure, heart problems and stroke. You are lucky that you have low blood pressure right now, but if you indulge in too much salt, it may not always be that way. I also have low blood pressure, but I have to watch my salt.
Cranky - if your blood pressure is low there is no reason for you to limit salt - just sugar. Its true that those who are affected by using too much salt, such as high blood pressure, are more prone to heart disease and stroke because that's what high blood pressure causes. I havent had a salt shaker in the house for 11 years. In the beginning its very difficult and eventually you become very sensitive if something has too much salt.
Believe it or not, cheese is one of the biggest culprits with salt and fat. I do buy cream cheese because I just can't give everything up but thats it.
It is very difficult to eat right in restaurants even when you order something you think you can have. Even salads are loaded with sugar and/or salt and fat unless the don't put any dressing on and ask for oil and vinegar.
I eat Liveactive cheese. It is good and only has 7% salt. It is the lowest I can find.
