Evidence proves readings taken with the device are more accurate than the traditional arm cuff.
The device, invented by scientists at the University of Leicester and in Singapore, works by measuring pressure in the aorta - the largest artery in the body located near the heart and brain.
The gadget - backed by Health Secretary Andrew Lansley and funded by the Department of Health - can help doctors to decipher appropriate treatment based on the risks from high blood pressure.
Professor Bryan Williams, from the University of Leicester's department of cardiovascular sciences at Glenfield Hospital, said he expected the technology to be in use shortly in specialist centres before being rolled out.
He said: "I am under no illusion about the magnitude of the change this technique will bring about.
"It has been a fabulous scientific adventure to get to this point and it will change the way blood pressure has been monitored for more than a century.
"The beauty of all of this is that it is difficult to argue against the proposition that the pressure near to your heart and brain is likely to be more relevant to your risk of stroke and heart disease than the pressure in your arm."

I saw one ready for production 18 months ago a small replaceable pad was put under the watch every 24 hours to give a reading on demand.
However I heard that the accuracy was inconsistent, and an inaccurate meter is a menace
