Drinking just three cups of tea a day can protect against heart attacks and stroke, claim researchers.
A new review shows regular drinking of either black or green tea can reduce the risk of heart problems by 11 per cent.
It cuts the build-up of plaque in the arteries - a combination of dangerous fat and cholesterol.
In terms of the delivery of antioxidants, two cups of tea is equivalent to five portions of vegetables or two apples
The review by researchers at the University of Western Australia says the benefits of tea are largely due to the flavonoid content, antioxidant ingredients that counteract cardiovascular disease.
One cup of tea provides 150-200mg of flavonoids.
In terms of the delivery of antioxidants, two cups of tea is equivalent to five portions of vegetables or two apples.
The review published in the science journal Molecular Aspects of Medicine also found the flavonoid content of black tea is equal to that of green tea. Almost 80 per cent of Britons are tea drinkers.
Dr Jonathan Hodgson, co-author of the review, said 'There is now consistent data indicating that tea and tea flavonoids can enhance nitric oxide status and improve endothelial function, which may be at least partly responsible for benefits on cardiovascular health.'
Dr Catherine Hood from the industry-backed Tea Advisory Panel said 'Compared with US studies, the cardiovascular benefits of tea are particularly strong in European studies. This includes UK studies where most of the tea consumed is black.
'Plaques in the carotid artery (a marker of atherosclerosis) have been shown to be less common in both men and women who drink tea.
'Bearing in mind the number of studies, including human trials, data demonstrates that flavonoids in tea can inhibit the development of atherosclerosis.
'This review also highlights evidence from randomised controlled trials showing that tea consumption may improve the health of the inner lining of the blood vessels as well as evidence that tea may reduce the risk of high blood pressure and lower blood pressure.
'Adding milk to tea doesnât affect the absorption of flavonoids from tea, according to several human research trials. In addition, the antioxidant effects seen in our blood following tea consumption are similar whether or not milk is added.'
She said 'Evidence is growing that three to four cups of black tea each day is good not only for general health, but also for cardiovascular health.
'Given the popularity of black tea in the UK, this is good news for those who enjoy regular cups of tea.'

I assume you are talking about a cup of Joe, as in Jolting Joe Dimaggio.
This was how it was always made in England up until the invention of the Tea Bag, When standards started to slip.
I bet old Queen Victoria would be turning in her grave to see how the Tea bag has taken over
I mean can you see the Japanese using Tea Bags for their Tea ceremony it just would not be correct
Posh tea
In the house of a true middle class person will be a collection of different types of tea. However, not one teabag will be present, for this is what the posh call "real" tea.
Posh tea is the leaves themselves. Oddly, its the same stuff that goes in the bags, but poncy folk insist it tastes better without the bag. I wonder why ?
For posh tea you will need a teapot, and a tea-strainer. Hardcore poshes will have several strainers. To make posh tea, simply follow these instructions.
Take the teapot and empty out the contents from the previous tea session. This consists of a ton of damp tea that gets everywhere and just won't go down the sink properly. Eventually, the tea that does make it down the sink without sticking to one of the many items of crockery already there will build up in the sink trap and require the services of a plumber, or sink plunger. If you haven't used the teapot for a while, and you are lazy, there will be some sweet smelling mould that you will need to remove with bleach. Of course if you truly are posh you will have washed the pot up after the last cup of tea and therefore won't be familiar with this problem.
Boil the (electric) kettle.
Pour some water in the pot and wash it around. This is known as "warming the pot" and is a good idea.
Empty this water.
Spoon some of the tea into the pot. Have one heaped teaspoon per person, and one "for the pot".
Pour in some freshly boiled water.
Wait for the tea to brew.
Once brewed, decide "who will be mother". This means "who will pour the tea" and is a nostalgic reference to middle-class Victorian England.
Place the strainer over a cup and fill the cup from the teapot through it. Top the cup with milk. At some point the strainer will become totally full with damp messy tea leaves. Simply go into the kitchen and pathetically try to remove the tea by sadly scraping the strainer with a knife over the bin/sink.
This tea tastes very much like a cuppa, only it takes much longer to make and requires far more hasslesome cleaning.

I have only seen the extent of it since being diabetic Its not easy to buy food that has not been modified sprayed with something or messed about in some way

Once these huge corporations can control the seeds used for the main crops they will have control as you need to go to them to but your farm supplies
The European Union has more of less banned GM foods for this reason
when GM food was introduced a few years ago customers just boycotted it

We have turned ourselves into a low wage economy so where is the money coming from.
Once all the skilled jobs have gone too. the only jobs will be admin or the service industries

When you see how much water is used to make say 100 or so ears of corn ok if its coming out of the sky

To make one pint of beer take gallons and gallons of water but its OK water is free
