Animal collecting... Sigh. This is a real addiction!!
As a kid I had hundreds, yes hundreds of animals, but I did live on a farm and most of them were named pet livestock.
As a teen I somehow managed with only half a dozen horses, a dozen goats, and lots of dogs and cats...
As a young adult, living in an apt, my critter options were limited and got even more limited as I joined the Army. In base housing my small family only had three dogs, two lizards, and a tank full of fish.
Getting out of the military, I got back into horses, bringing my total number up to seven. I had between two and four dogs depending on circumstances, and up to three ferrets.
Recently, the last few years, I have tried hard to curb my animal collecting. Hubby does not think I am doing a good job at it. Granted the 50+ freshwater salamander eggs I rescued from the ocean last year did have me concerned about having 50+ 7 to 8 inch salamanders to care for... but I apparently suck at raising salamanders and I now have an empty tank.
After much work, as my pets are not given to just anyone!!! I have one horse, two dogs, and three ferrets. I don't really claim my grown daughter's dog or horse unless she is not currently in the house. OK, so that is really three dogs, two horses, and three ferrets....

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmonĀ

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I did get another quaker parrot on Guam but when I moved back to USA I sold him too....some lady with a quaker that was laying eggs got him...he had been genetically sexed by blood drop.....
when I got home from Guam I was allowed to get dog in my house I rented so I found an English Setter that I had desired an English Setter since hunting with one as a boy with my dad and his friend who had an English Setter named Doc...so I named my dog Doctor Domino or Doc for short...the way I got that name was I knew I wanted a Doc and I drove by Dominos pizza on way home with him...by the way with papers at 4mo old he cost me $50....so Doc was just put down in Jan when we had big storm of snow 13in deep and he was almost 15 and his back legs were weak...he could not handle the snow so I drove in 13in of snow to have him put down after twice finding him covered in snow out in yard...he had doggie door....
anyway I got a rescue Vizsla named Carmen to keep Doc company and she was hunter too...Doc did college for the hunting but Carmen had been hunted by previous owner and she was a natural...but nobody would fetch dead birds...LOL
Carmen got Lymphoma and I had to put her down April 1 2009.....
Then I got Shep the shredder dog with separation anxiety...he shredded everything in old house living room...it never got him any punishment but a stern look from me for doing that to my stuff...it was all old stuff...no prob doggie is important...Shep happens to be over his shredding if I lock him in the kitchen where nothing can be shredded when I leave but the doggie door allows him outside...oh we moved too shep and doc and I had 60 days to get out of old rental house as they decided to sell it....so I found us another place and I am very happy here...smaller but comfort is here...then when I knew Doc was getting older and weak in back legs I decided to search out for an English Pointer....I contacted someone in AR I live in St. Louis....well this breeder connected me to Fayetteville animal shelter that had Tucker and English Pointer mix...he is supposed to be part hound...I dunno he is pretty doggie though with short hair not like Doc and his long hair....
So I now just have Tucker and Shep and they both love each other and play well together but often at 11pm bedtime they decide Time to Play! LOL They are both on diet now as Tucker had been skin and bones when I got him from animal shelter...and now he is sporting fatted calf look...maybe 85 or more lbs...he is fat! I almost would like another bird but they have attracted mice into the home in past so I am skipping the added family of mice because I already have one feeding on dog food here...I point those mice to the poison and hide it from the dogs....
I was laying on the couch, reading a book. The house was full of teenagers and hubby when I felt movement on my knee. I reached over to pick up the mouse, stopping 1/4 inch away with the realization that I have not had a pet mouse, EVER. I screamed and bolted and every one in the house was on desks and wood chairs. No one would touch the ground as the mouse strolled over to the front closet, right past all the dogs.
Hubby, grabs me a red Solo cup and tells me to CATCH it????? Then the friggen mouse climbs ON the dog who is looking at all of us like we are on crack. I used a trash bag when it tried to hide behind the dog and evicted it OUTSIDE.
We have ferrets in the house again... and NO mice!!!
Oh, and that couch went to the dump the next day.
I saw a mouse in my kitchen today came out from under the dishwasher where they stay in the insulation and nest...so time to put the dishwasher back up against the wall and drop poison behind the thing....dead mousie is a nice mousie
