For some reason, I could not reply to this post. There was no reply box and no explanation as to why there was no reply box!

Did the CL shut it off for some reason?


What I wanted to say is that back at the old site, my account was public.  I thought at the time, I made my account public that people outside ds would just know that I was a member!  But when a family member typed in my name under google search, right at the top of the list was my name, the DS site, and every post I ever wrote as a member of DS!  I was mortified!


Long story short, I went back to DS and made my account private so if my posts ever wind up on social media without my permission, I will have to check out of the hotel of life....just sayin!  DS hope you read that we take our privacy, VERY seriously! K?

If you scroll down to the bottom of the Social Sharing thread (near where the reply box would be) there's a note in small print that the thread has been closed. Fish's last reply indicates that he closed it. (Even if he wasn't a CL, it's his thread, DS will close your own thread at anytime.)

As for your name showing up on Google search. DS solved this issue years ago with an option in between Private and Public....the option is Profile visible to DS Members Only.

Log OFF and then Google search your DS identity....you shouldn't be found. (Search while logged on, and you'll find yourself.)

Not too sure about that. Whatever GOOGLE had before you went MEMBERS ONLY will probably still be found. If not, ... GREAT ... works better than I would expect.

I don't know if you've got any original posts out in the webs, but your name appears many times with comments.

Bob if you used your real name there might be way to see your posts but not when profile is private.

Now me I just have only viewable by DS members. Plus just DS admins can access my real name.
So having an anonymous user name I would think it helps. Dont count me 100% correct! I may be wrong!

If your online name is too close to your real name (or any reason whatsoever), then you can send a request into DS to have it changed. I think DS limits people to one name change, but with complicated circumstances....you could probably get them to do it twice.

My name actually is my real name...but I have no one in my real life that cares that much. If my kids want to read what I'm writing, they just look over my shoulder. As teens, most of the time they don't even want to hear what I have to say...read what I write...only in my wildest dreams.

In any case, your Real Name shouldn't be connected with any of that. Let DS know immediately.

And you could probably get DS to delete the post I googled. (not that it said anything...)

Thankyou everybody for your input. Patti, yes, that was an older post and I don't mind that particular one, but there were some other older ones from many years ago, that came up, when my full name was typed in, but not recently. I was just using it for an example. I just never forgot it because it was embarrassing at the time. When it happened, I immediately made my account private so that only DS friends can view it and that is DS friends only. No friends on the outside of DS. I better double check that.

I probably should change my username because it is too close to my real name, like Joline mentioned.

Wandering, I did what you suggested and I couldn't find anything, so that's a good thing.
