I've heard a lot of people getting upset over the ratings in the forums, which I feel is caused from a lack of communication. The people that seem to be getting offended by the ratings are the ones that seem to be reading in to their meaning more then they should. I read a post where someone said that DS should just make the person who did the ratings identity known. I don't feel that would solve the problem because someone will still read into it wrong and get upset with the person who was only tringy to be respectful.
I feel like in order to solve the problem; when someone clicks on one of the "ratings" a small box should appear where you are required to write an explanation to why you rated it that way. That way no one can read them wrong. And I also think that their should also be a little check box on the explanation that allows you to decide whether you want to remain anonymous, or show your identity. And then I feel like instead of the explanation being revealed on the post like they are now, they should remain private and just be sent to the author of the post/comment in a automatic PM. I really feel like that would solve the issue with all the complaints about the Ratings hurting peoples feelings and upsetting them, but at the same time keep their purpose.

But I agree that the biggest problem is that people read way too much into something as simple as a rating.
why not just make a check box like...

that you can click to disable the ratings.
then some can have them, and others can remove them.
