I would really like to know...tried answering my own question, but couldn't find anything that went over the rules for that particular section.

I have seen others have links to music sites/etc in their links....not sure that helps but thought I would let you know.

I dont have a clue and cant find a thing in the rules ask paul.

sounds like a NO but I read that and still thought as long as it isnt for money I dont see the deal unless it is cause of the advertising. But yes that is what it said this man is smart!

I've got a link on my profile that leads to a song on youtube and I haven't gotten in trouble yet. I think it's alright to do it as long as you're not asking for money.

Well, I saw someone get temporarily banned on DS for posting up a link to another online community...And my music play list comes from another online community for music... So that's why I don't know...

There is someone who constantly advertises a support group who asks for donations, in one of my groups, to the point that i wonder if she is affiliated to that site.
Will have to look up the FAQ.

So are are saying that even tho we don't subscribe to a certain (i.e. pay them money for being able to use the site) that we can't post their link?

If they are saying we can't because of the advertising, that pretty much would leave out just about every link.

"...personally, commercially involved with in any way..." Seems to me this could be read a number of ways and the verbage needs to be clarified.

Does that mean "personally" that any site I go to for personal reasons? Does that mean "commercially" any site I subscription fees to or made/make one or more purchases from? OR does that mean "commercially" that I profit from that site?

Well, have to watch out for copyright infringement too.

Back when members were able to upload video to their journals, some got removed by DS because the members used whole songs. Violation of copyright.

If it's a link to something like blip.fm, not sure if that goes against the TOS here or not.

Another words linking to sites is ok as long as they are not to sites that want you to donate $ or purchase something like a store front website where the sole purpose of the site to sell a product per say. Or advertise a product......etc.

I think youtube and myspace...etc. are fine. Correct me if I'm wrong Paul....Jesse....anyone from DS lol

You're right, Joe.

We only ask that you don't solicit money on behalf of yourself or any organization.

Also, we can't host or use copyrighted material without permission. Linking to copyrighted material on another site doesn't violate our TOS though. In the case of YouTube, they do a great job policing their site for copyright violations so just know that your links might go away if YouTube deletes the content.

We're working on some TOS updates and will try to clarify this later.
