I guess because the peopple I have on ignore are only ignored for private (hugs and pms) I had never had reason to check it out until you mentioned it.
The one bonus with the member groups is that you (founder and admins) can remove post and comments and ban people who are making trouble, being nasty etc. Maybe because of that they didn't extend the feature.
The other reason could be that the ignore facility predates the member groups and perhaps they just didn't think of it at the time that they gave us the member groups.
But maybe one of the DS staff will drop by.
Unfortunately there is not always a Founder or admin around to handle the situation, just as DS isn't around on weekends to help end the weekend terror in a more expedient manner.
Many folks like to enjoy the subs' without the constant attack via the trolls, and sending the "abuse form" does no good as the standard reply is to "ignore":(
No reason one would not want to ignore some jerk in a Member Group.
Some of the trolls I am referring to make it a practice to look at our profiles and follow us to ANY group we belong to, especially on weekends.
You think DS would make ME a admin here???? They followed me here before using a variation of my name and my avatar for that day. I had to delete this group (and a LOT of others) from my profile to help prevent this.
My heart/head tells me that if the sub groups had the ability to Ignore them, DS would have a lot less work on their hands come Monday mornings......hell...no one would see them....LOL.....they would be talking to themselves and hopefully would eventually tire of the lack of response:) (we can hope, can't we?)
Do any REAL DS guys ever come on here....or is it just DS members with gripes of sorts??
Hopefully he or one of the other people will drop by soon.
I have a friend who has people who follow her around too and it is most annoying when she goes to a group and they follow her. She came to the group I have because it is invitation only and she felt that was safe, and so far it has been.
And SW hand I had a troll a year or so ago that followed us to our groups and caused all sorts of trouble - thankfully that seems to have settled down for us for now at least.
Hope that it does for you too.
Even if they did put ignore on the member groups it would take a while for it to be done. Wheels can move very slowly at times.
BTW not everything on here is gripes. We do help each other a lot. TekJoe solved a problem I was having (and despite his name he is NOT DS staff). And a few of us have been able to help each other from out own experiences - just happens that right ow most of the posts are gripes. But hang around, it too will change.
Thanks for this thread. We're aware that the ignore feature needs some strengthening.
When the member groups were designed, we gave more control to the admins thinking that was enough to prevent abuse.
Jesse and I are writing a spec for upgrades to the ignore feature and we'll be sure to consider these comments.
If they just don't like each other then one or both should leave the group. If neither volunteers, both should be banned. Sorry, but the member groups are supposed to be peaceful places where "everyone knows your name" :-) The founder or admins main goal is to keep it peaceful.
There are many less posts on member groups and the ignore feature would just cause alot of confusion for those not seeing ALL the posts. Just my humble opinion.
Having an ignore button would prevent (lets say ) Me from seeing what the troll is saying, thereby preventing any reaction on my part while allowing me to continue to interact with my "like minded" friends. It wouldn't stop EVERYONE from seeing the trolls replies, only those that choose to use that ignore button.
Many people find more support on the subs than the Main boards because of the fun and camaraderie that develops, sometimes lightening the burden of the illness they are dealing with. Humor really is a good medicine, but when its disrupted my vicious attacks by a troll, with no agenda except to hurt people, it disrupts everything and everyone.
Paul....thank you for your reply
