ideas/ways and thoughts on how to help DS improve

Chris198I
DS is a wonderful site, and truly is a treasure trove of love, care, support, and guidance, that helps us along on our days :) it's especially a blessing too, because of what it brings to our lives, in us getting to share with eachother, our healing journey's, our goals, dreams we hope to achieve, and special times being shared with family, and friends. :) across the miles, DS has brought us all very close. When we visit eachother's pages, it truly is like a warm welcome into eachother's hearts, a gift of friendship and joy :)
lately, as many have noticed, DS has had some issues. i know for myself, i have had times when it took a bit longer to log in, or to navigate the site. many of my friends here, have mentioned it too. it got me to thinking, about some things, ideas, ways, that maybe ds could be improved, to work better for everyone :) it's been a lifeline for me, over the years, and i love this site very much, and i know it's been a lifeline for many people, who have always believe in DS, and the greatness of it :)
Everything at times, needs a tuneup, whether it's a car, plane, or ourselves with needs for improvement, DS also is like that, and maybe there are some ways, for it to improve, easy ways to improve, so that it works better, and smoother for everyone. i have talked with some dear friends here on the site, and mentioned some of these ideas, and wanted to post this, to welcome everyone reading, to share thoughts and also ideas, and ways to make DS run it's best, like it deserves :) some of us, are going on being here now, for nearly 10 years, a decade. The site is very special, and important, and whether you've been here since the beginning, or just joined today, we all can really agree upon, we want DS to work great :)
There are some ideas i have come up with, that maybe can help DS, to run more smoothly.
1- Condensing old topics on forums here on the site. There are many forums, support groups here, and i noticed you can click back all the way to 2007, which is good, but those topics posted, do take up space. instead of deleting them, what if those topics could be condensed, into a folder, categorized, from year to year much like how our journals are. This could be a way, for DS to archive the topics, so they are there, but if anyone wants to read those topics from 2007, 2008, 2009, etc, they could simply just click on the folder/year that it was posted, and could then read. our journals are like this. when i go to my page, inside my journals, it says, 2012, i can click it open, to read a list of journals i wrote that year. i believe, that condensing the forums topics, beginning in 2007, to maybe 2014 to start, could give the site more space, which in return could help save bandwidth, and help the site run more smoothly.
2- Groups, that are no longer active, there are many, what if those groups, could be archived the exact same way? what if that could make space. there are groups, that are on here, that were last posted in, in 2009, that's 7 years. most likely, those groups will not be active again, but there are 2 options, to archive them, or could all together just remove those groups.
a friend mentioned to me, that maybe there's something that would happen, with members who haven't been active for a year or longer, that those pages may be deleted, or perhaps archived in some way, so that those members, could recieve an email, to notify them, by Team DS, to let them know, their page is being archived, and if they want to return, they could be activated again, into a large page like we currently have. i'm just putting up a few ideas, that could give DS a chance, to run more smoother, by saving space, and i think all of this, could be possible.
3- pictures. in the pictures section, i know there are some of us, who have many uploaded (i'm one of these members who shares pictures often0. what if, we could have an option, to archive/condense our pictures, into folders, by year. this could make there more space, for the site to work with, especially it's server. could make the uploads faster, easier, and more convienent for those of us, who don't have much time to uploads, as every day life can get busy :)
i'm not 100% sure, DS hasn't been working as well lately, but, i believe it may have something to do with the server, or the ads, or something, but i just wanted to post this, so that maybe DS will see it, and maybe could take some of our ideas, to better the site for the sake of the site, and also for us all, who love Daily Strength, who want to see it continue to thrive, to grow, for new members to come, and to make friends, to share goals, and make friendships :) anyone, with any ideas, or any thoughts, please share, and lets maybe get this rolling forward even more, so that we can continue to enjoy the site we love, DS! :) we all are passionate about DS, we're here, we come here, to communicate, with our friends, to share, support, help, and encourage, and DS has been very good to us, and we too, can be good to DS, by helping it, in it's time of need right now, by standing with DS, during these times, being patient, and remembering all of the goodness it's brought us over the years. :) DS is like a classic car, that just needs a tune up, and when it does, it's gonna cruise nicely again, i know it, i believe in it, and i will always never lose hope, because DS gives me hope, years of friendships and support and lots more shared :) There's always one true joy of DS, and that is, over the years, we always have worked together, to help eachother, and i know in these times, we can stick together, and help improve DS and it's performance :)
Thank you for reading :)

As you may have noticed from other comment here, DS is working on a major upgrade. I know that DS admin reads this forum here, so odds are strong that they have seen this (or shall shortly) and will factor it into any feedback they give to what ever the upgrade is going to be.
I was one of the gazillion people who bought tickets for the recent 1.5 BILLION dollar power ball. I had sworn that if I had one that I would buy DS and upgrade it on my incredible budget.
But, alas, I did not win the drawing. (Not even a token $2 prize!)
I would add CHAT to your list. That is one feature that people almost always mention to me, so when I get the chance I pass that on.
I do think that having all postings dating way back to the start of DS available is a bit overkill. The idea of an archival area sounds good, that way the file space for the servers could focus on the stuff that gets 99% of the hits!
I'm no database admin, but I do wonder if you're on to something with all the extra 'clutter' from 2007 onwards making the database run slower / slows server response time. I've noticed that it takes ages to log on, like the site is gathering all my messages and info from the last nine years... :)
I wouldn't want everything deleted, also. I have messages from a friend on here who passed away a while ago, and would hate to lose them. Your folder idea is a good one, Chris!
I agree though - the site is great with lots of support and great friends!

I just learn to adjust just as I do with my crazy internert....so I never know who to blame. lol.
I hope that DS's is successful with the major upgrade as I could not take another "migration".
Great idea's Chris!
Mr. Pepper, wishing you luck on the next power ball. :-)
