David hit all posts to the right hand side there is a post button click there and it prompts you to write your post.

When you say subscribe to a thread, you mean join a group, or like HeartDX wrote about, Writing a post to a group, like this one? To join a group / forum there is a "join" button at the top right in the Big Cover photo to the right of the Group name. Just click the "join" button

By subscribe to a thread, you may mean "sign up for e-mail notifications" for all the replies to that thread, and not just join the group where the threads are posted. I get e-mail notifications for hugs and friend requests, but I have not seen where to sign up for e-mail notifications of replies to a specific thread.

I just automatically get notifications for hugs, messages and posts and I didn't do anything they were just there and I assumed everyone's was the same

yeh, notifications appear to be automatic. I haven't seen a setting anywhere to specify what notifications I want to get. Just as loriemar mentioned in a reply to a thread or when you create a post.
