I didn't even know there was such a thing, So I duckducked it. (i refuse to use the intrusive 'g' any more, lol. Just based on the first principle, I would say if they did follow & honor it, it would be the demise of DS.

Since DS is, as far as I know, still geared toward peer to peer support & sharing of information, it would seem that DS wouldn't be able to honor that code. Of course as Dennis Miller from SNL says, that's just my opinion and I could be wrong.

uh cave - the "Honcode" has absolutely no place here and I do not know why you are bringing it up here unless you are trying to somehow disqualify DS in some capacity.

It is made very clear that DS is a site for people to share their own experience, strength and hope in various areas - no one is claiming to be the sole and only medical source for any illness and I think you are trying to create an issue where none exists.

In all these years, I've never seen anything about an Honor Code. This is the first time I am seeing it.

I think someone is trying to stir the pot......when the stirring isn't needed.

I don't give much credence to this HONcode personally.

And what I mean by that is that not having it doesn't mean a site is running rogue. It's just what the organization gives a site when it applies and meets a certain criteria.

It's like insurance companies who apply for URAC accreditation. You can be a top rated, law abiding insurance company and not be accredited by URAC

Not sure if it would be hard to follow or not. Depends on the criteria HONCode uses, their measurements for verifying a site meets their standards, how stringent they are with their own guidelines, etc. There are the rules and then there is HONCode's interpretation of their own rules and own criteria. Also, some of the rules may be specific to the medical experts on a site vs the members participating in the groups.

Regardless, not sure what any of it really proves, whether you have that logo or not. Would it prevent most people from using DS if they didn't have that logo? Probably not.

I would feel really bad for people who actually use this site for a source of support if a fellow member tried to create an issue about DS not following this specific code. So I hope that's not the intent. I think that would cause more harm than good for many people who feel DS is a lifeline for them.

DS has it's issues for sure, but at the end of the day, for the peer to peer work that happens here it works really well, considering the amount of members, groups, differing opinions and personalities, etc.

Wouldn't prevent me. Hasn't prevented me, ever.

But I did peek at the 'rules' on Hon Code------ (grin) It would be really hard for a site to comply with them! But I have no issue with that.

And when I click on the 'verify here', it says 'This site is undergoing periodical audit'.
Is that significant? What do they usually say when you click on 'Verify here'?

I did the same as you, Eulen, and got the 'audit' message.

I poked around just a little bit, being naturally curious, and it seems that a site that has been awarded the HonCode is automatically checked for compliance once in a while. Maybe once a year?

I'll check back every now and then to see just how long the accredication process takes. It's been at least 3 days now.

I don't think it applies to us because

--We are not to provide personal data on the board

--We aren't to provide e-mail contact on the board

--We don't provide our funding sources on the board

This is designed for patients or individuals (which could be patient advocates?) that interact online with their doctors, clinics, etc.
