I think the scammers are real people and so I don't think this would make a difference. Certainly after their messages have been sent I've noticed some of them come in a clear any warning hugs.

It does stop spam..but then what we have is something different I think.

If I had to captcha every pm i did I'd leave! my eyes are lousy and I don't need the added strain. Just report em and get on with things is my attitude! We have members that are nasty to begin with that we can't get rid of. How about working on those first? i don't mean to sound mean but maybe we're going in a poor direction.

But as Fish pointed out, its hard to use CAPTCHA if the spammers are using an automated system. I know, it might slow them down a bit. But overall I think it would just add frustration on top of the things that are already going on right now to the majority of legitimate users.

Unless DS was able to somehow block every IP from Nigeria, I don't think there's much that can be done to preemptively stop the spammers from coming here.

oops, brain fart. Fish was talking about real people, not bots. Which is also an effective way of bypassing any security measures they might put up.

I think that if used properly, CAPTCHA could make it harder for spammers, yet not impact the rest of us!

I think DS is doing what myspace did for awhile and breaking links. Ive had a few times where Ill click on a hug, journal, or a profile and the browser will tell me DS is no longer available.... I click refresh or back, and click the same thing, and it loads fine... If someones using a macro, an error page is probably going to mess the program up more then a captcha.

I hate them agreed in some places they are needed like if you need to vote on something but not for everyday use and not here we have way to many people with disabilties to try and figure out what those letters and numbers are .

I have trouble seeing . I love DS but if I had to go through that trouble every time i wanted to log on I would just leave.

I was thinking like how myspace and others used it. Randomly for messages sent out to members who are not on your friend list.

I just want people to remember that places that use CAPTCHA don't have any spam mail at all/ or hardly any. and even though when you reply to the message and you get a reply back..It doesn't mean that it still wasn't sent out electronically. Someone has to set up the account, but I highly doubt if they can't take the time to spell out things properly, that they are really going to send them all out one by one. It's fine if you guys still don't like the idea, but I hear many complaints about spam and little ideas on how to help it....I was only giving you a widely used idea.
