Everyone now and again [with new members especially,] I come across someone who wants their post to be closed. Can we ask for them or the new person to have the post closed? Or can we at least make a suggestion to have it closed because they asked in a comment? A lot of new people don't know how to go about having their posts closed....OR do they? I'm not sure, it's been a while since I was new. I've seen people beg in a post, something that I can almost hear, and it's heart breaking...But sometimes it never gets closed.

As a dailystrength member, what can [I] do to help out these people?

And I seriously think this only brings up the point that we should be able to DELETE OUR OWN POSTS...

I can't speak for other CLs, but in Depression if a person has asked for their post to be closed AS A REPLY IN THE POST, then all you need to is drop them a PM suggesting they PM the CL and ask it. If you think they are too new to feel comfortable doing that then you can PM the CL yourself and direct them to the post (and reply) where they asked for it to be closed.

Would it not be easier to allow the original author of the thread to be able to close the thread? Members can delete hugs/journals/messages. Is there a way for DS Admin to add thread deletion as an option?

I think this has been requested.

The only reason I can think for not letting people close their own posts would be if they started a very lively debate, then wanted to close it because it was (while still very civil) not reaching the conclusions they wanted.

I think this has only happened once in my personal experience.

Same as Pepp - Instruct the new user to send a message to a CL and ask them to close the post. But know that (unless malicious behavior is occurring) only the original poster has the power to decide if a post should be closed.
