I wanted to share this with my fellow Daddy's Girls. I wrote this while trying to figure out how to say goodbye to my Daddy after he passed away this year and I read it at his memorial service.
Daddy’s Girl
There are no greater memories of growing up
Than those of looking up to my father
He was a man of compassion and honesty
That could never be matched by any other
He was there to kiss the boo-boos
To air up my tire or to fix my bike chain
He was there for me to turn to
In times of happiness, confusion, and in pain
My Daddy looked upon me,
With eyes full of love and pride
There was never a doubt in my mind
That no matter what, he was always by my side
There was never a question of his forgiveness
No matter what it was I had done wrong
It was only a question of when it would come
And it was never very long
I grew up making mistake after mistake
But in Daddy’s eyes, it didn’t matter
He was proud that in making them, I learned
And remembered the lesson forever after
I have his eyes, I have his freckles,
I mow and vacuum in the same straight lines
I share the same sense of humor
Which did get us in trouble a number of times
His love for music and comedy he passed on to me
Along with his constant ability to laugh and smile
He instilled in me characteristics I’m proud of
Being like my daddy will always be my style
I’ve always had my dad on a pedestal
This man was the hero of my world
There is no feeling of more security
Than knowing you are Daddy’s Girl
