Crohn's Disease & Ulcerative Colitis Support Group
Crohn's disease is a systemic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) of unknown cause, that results in chronic inflammation of the intestinal tract. It can affect the entire gastrointestinal tract from mouth to anus, and can also cause complications outside of the gastrointestinal tract. There is no known medical or surgical cure for Crohn's disease, but there are many medical...
have you told your doc/GI about it? crohns can affect any part of your body so it could be in your throat which could be causing the symptoms..
maybe they could give you something to open up your throat, like an inhaler that they give to asthmatic (sp) patients?
good luck, sorry i can't be more help
Good luck to you.
What do you mean by secondary crohn's?
I'd say the most important thing is to get on top of this inflammation as quickly as possible.
Is your diet something that you developed yourself or are there other reasons you stick to milk and yoghurt? Although not 100% confirmed, many specialists believe that mycobacterium in milk make symptoms worse (see research by Prof Herman Taylor) I spoke to someone with crohn's the other night who has been in remission for 9 years and she swears it's becasue she switched to UHT milk (the mycobacterium are destroyed in UHT as it is pasteurised at a higher temp.) Maybe all the dairy is making you worse? Just a theory but maybe worth a try.
I would find a good Gastro specialist and ask to be referred. A liquid feed could rest your bowel and throat totally and (hopefully) reduce the inflammation. This should also ensure you don't lose any more weight and that you get better nutrition..
Hope this helps a little, but it sounds like you need a really good doctor who can address this inflammation aggressively.
There are liquid feeds such as ELEMENTAL E028, PEPDITE (I'll see if I can find any more.) They contain all your nutrients, amino acids etc and are designed not to need absorption. They rest the bowel and allow symptoms to ease (hopefully!!)
They really should be done under a doctor, and I'm not saying they're fun!! I wonder with the US system if you could buy them yourself if you were desperate?
If your MEDI-CAL would cover you, you might be able to try TPN - Total Parenteral Nutrition for a few weeks. It seems extreme, but they feed you through a central line into your blood. This leaves the bowel to heal completely.
I can't IMAGINE how awful it must be not to be entitled to treatment. OMG.
If you find you can't get a hospital to support you and want to know more about hospital designed diet, I can try to help
The very best of luck with your search for a doctor and try not to be too frightened. Symptoms are often not a scary as they seem.
Finally, I lived on little more than chicken, rice and prawns for years, but now I eat almost everything. There's always hope!!
