My doctor told me to eat a lot of protein and barely any fiber or raw fruit and vegetables. Eating more protein definitely makes a difference for me. It moves through my system normally and is easy to digest for me. I eat a lot of tofu, fish, shrimp and chicken. Beef and sausage are a little rough.

As for the anxiety, I'm on Ativan which really helps my stress level. Stress does not cause Crohn's but it sure does aggravate it. It also helps me to keep all my fears in perspective since this can be a really scary disease. Hang in there!

I feel as though the overabundance of microbes in the gut, thus producing overabundance of toxins contribute to emotional disturbances. I read that in Elain Gottschal's book about the SCD diet & fully believe it. I use xanax while on prednisone & will taper both at the same time. Meanwhile i've begun the SCD diet to eradication the microbe invasion...getting to the root of the problem.

Proteins are great for you and should not cause any flare-ups. Just try to eat them as simply as possible, meaning not spicy or fancy sauces. As for anxiety - walking, meditating, and I've heard yoga are great alternatives. Good luck to you.
