Yes I had a partial obstruction in Dec and Doc put me on TNO feeding bag mainline in neck super dupper prednisone flagyl and fluids and we made it thru without surgery I also had 2 strictures and was bleeding and had to have blood transfusions My doc is great I think surgery should be a last resort take care jane

I have been told lots of fluids, especially grape juice.

I'm sorry that this is not an answer to your questiion, but I often hear people discuss obstructions. What exactly are they and how do you know you have one?

I think its when you are backed up, you know what I mean, once I had stomach pains and couldn't go, the doctor said if it continued he would have to check for that, I took some stool softeners and finialy went.

i have not had an obstruction. but i am due here pretty soon for sugery. and i think from what i have heard that an obstruction is not good to have. but my docs have reached the end of this journey of meds and think it would be best to start from the beginning again. i think it is also best if they have tryed every thing and i am now starting to not have much passage way for my food to flow. so i think that is the time for surgery. i don't know how bad your crohns has gotten , but i think mine is pretty bad when i have a hard time eating and my food is not going down my instines very well any more and not with out having so much pain in the process. i think you have reached a point like where i am at . it would be in your best intrst to do what is best for your health. and if that means surgery and i think you should do it. because it could cause so many other problems if you do not have it.i am not saying there are no risks, but there are more risks if you do nothing .see if your docs think this is your only choice at this time and if they think it is best for you right now. and if they feel very strongley for it than i would trust them. because most docs at least wait until they have reached the end before they go to surgery. so i wish you luck and hope every thing turns out for you.

I know you are probably not wanting surgery and I can completely understand that. However, I have had the surgery and would never go back. I am healthy now than I ever was before. It is great to be able to eat foods that I was restricted on for so long. I had my surgery back in 1985 (I was diagnosed young), but now I have 4 children, been happily married for 16 years, and loving life.

If you are looking for other options I hope you find them. But don't just say that surgery is not for you, just because you don't want it. There is good that can come from having surgery. For me, only having been out of remission and hospitalized twice in the past 16 years. That to me is a good thing!!:)

I just had my 6th surgery for obstructive CD. It is really worse in words than the experience. I have had to repeat the surgery every 4 years since 1986. We are running out of small bowel, so I am not sure what comes next. I will going back to 6 MP to make an attempt to stop the progression. An obstruction is amongst the scariest and most dangerous issues you will face with CD.
