I got diagnosed with Sever Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn's disease in November. I was having a terrible flare-up at the time of my diagnosis. I'm just now starting to gain weight back that I have lost. I was immediately put on 2 antibiotics, anti-diarrheal meds, prednisone, and a few other medications. I went back to the Dr. on December 3rd for a follow-up. He then decided to start weaning me off of the Prednisone and put me on Lialda. But, he said the Lialda is just temporary until I decide on which treatment to be put on. The options he gave me were these: 6-MP or biological agents; Remicade or Humira. I'm pretty sure that 6-MP is not for me. But, I'm still so lost. I'm only 23 years old, and I'm not to keen on having to be put on a medication that my Dr. says that I can't ever get off of, b/c if I do, they will never work again. I have a 3 year old son now, and I'm pretty sure I would like to have another child again someday. I want to know if any of the treatments are ok during pregnancy. I've read a lot and most that I've read says the side effects of the drugs on the fetus are still unknown. I want to know if there are any women out there who have taken Remicade or Humira before, during, and after a pregnancy, and I want to know results. I just need help, any help, on deciding what treatment to decide on. My Dr. gave me until January 12, 2011 to make the decision. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
It was crohns. She had several resections and an abscess to clear up over the next couple of years they eventually took the entire colon and gave her an illeostomy (a bag from the small intestine). That wasn't the end if it though she continued to have flares...till they finally tried Remicade...she has been on it over 10 years and thought by now she can surly be taken off this drug. Last summer they weaned her off of it and within 3 months being off this drug she started loosing weight and was having pain in her gut... tests showed she was beginning with narrowing and had a few areas that were inflamed. They say your body may reject the drug the second time...but for her they have been able to introduce it again with success... Thank goodness! She was never on any drug while pregnant though...
