Crohn's disease is a systemic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) of unknown cause, that results in chronic inflammation of the intestinal tract. It can affect the entire gastrointestinal tract from mouth to anus, and can also cause complications outside of the gastrointestinal tract. Mouth ulcers suck! I've had them about 3 or 4 times. Anbesol helps, drinking with a straw, rinsing with a diluted peroxide does too. I also found that I had to avoid sugary, salty foods, and chunky foods.
Depending on how bad you have them, you may need to see your doc. I had to get lidocaine once and I also had a script for Carafate (sp?), I think I've heard some say that swishing with Maloxx helps too. Hang in there.
This too shall pass!
rinse mouth out with plain yogurt (live culture... we use home made yogurt) - adds healthy bacteria to mouth and changes pH levels in your mouth.
Tea tree oil mouth wash
Oil of oregano - stings like a bugger, but seems to do the trick, especially if you catch them early.
Have you noticed a pattern in when you get them? Something you eat? Something your not eating? Stress? I know it is hard, but sometimes some of these symptoms can be stopped if you can eliminate the triggers.
Best wishes and hope that your mouth sores go away soon.
They cover the inside of his lips, cheeks, all over and under his tongue, down his throat and even on that little hangy thing in the back of his mouth. :o(
Oil of Oregano is said to be one of the best treatments but we aren't having much success. He puts a topical anaesthetic on them all through the day (xylocaine) and he has a myriad of various mouth washes (Seattle Mouthwash) that pharmacists have made for him that only give him brief and minor relief.
The naturopathic had him taking licorice wafers (which are great for a number of things) but I'm not sure how long he was supposed to take those before we would see results.
For those that get them; have you tried switching toothpaste? We've read a couple of times that often people react to the paste so we recently switched to 'Tom's Naturals' toothpaste and mouthwash.
I just wanted to tell you i have been diagnosed with crohns of the mouth, ulcers are a symptom of crohns but mine arnt even ulcers they like fissurs in my cheeks and sores everywhere. I have been given a paste called Cyclosporine its a topical paste and they actually use Topical Taclorimus to treat mouth crohns so ask your docs about that.
I get mouth sores and thought it was from the crohn's meds I take.
so thanks for asking, I read all the good advice you got...
I have been suffering with several, in my throat, cheeks under my tongue...all last week, and still there now.

It's produced by a Chinese medicine company out of Guilin China and it comes in a tiny, white squeeze bottle that you can get at some asian grocery stores in the US--usually the bigger ones, and most TCM stores in Chinatowns. The Chinese name is Xigua Shuang, pronounced something like She Gwah Shwang and it's maybe 2-3$. All it is is ground up watermelon seeds, which are slightly acidic. You hold the applicator just above the affected area and squeeze the bottle slightly until little puffs of black powder coat the canker. Make sure you've got a fresh bottle. You'll know because it burns like hell for a few minutes but it does this because the acid in the seeds is coming into content with the alkaline sore and the result is the sore is slowly being burned away. After a few seconds, the pain of both the powder and the sore is gone. Depending on how big your sores are, you may need to do this multiple times in one day and for a few days straight. You don't want to eat or drink anything for a few minutes after you've applied the powder and you'll want to use a mirror when you apply it, both to make sure you're hiting your target and to make sure you don't have any visible black smears on your teeth before you go out.
