Marijuana and UC

Hi there,


I have UC. Was diagnosed with colitis last year. I'm currently experiencing my second flare and it has be ongoing since January. I was on prednisone for 6 weeks and they never cleared it up but my diet wasn't the greatest and didn't help anything. I'm currently off the prednisone and still flaring but be a lot more conscious about my diet (trying hard to stick with the low residue diet). Ive recently read an article on a test that was done to treat crohn's and UC with marijuana and had excellent results. I have smoked weed off and on for a while but never with the intections of helping my colitis. WIth more reserach I'm becoming more convinced that weed may help the situation. Wondering if anyone has used or is using weed to treat their UC and their experience with it. I'm thinking about getting a prescription for it. I know that would be the best thing instead of buying it off my friend whos never too sure what kind it is. Thanks for the help!

I wish I could help, I have smoked wed in the past but don'g think it really helps with my UC especially since I always get the munchies and eat too much which cause me to go even more, but then again it's not by prescription either. Good luck and let us know if you think it helps

Two close friends one with UC and one with Chrohns both smoke and have said it helps her a great deal. With my UC, my friend with Chrohn has highly encouraged me. My doctor has even given me a prescription to see a doctor to get my card. I have to be honest, I have not deeply researched it. So this is only from experience. I am considering it or CBD oil. I also have other pain from back issues unrelated. The only reason I haven't done it, is because I cannot do anything in moderation. I used to smoke in the past recreationally in college. Addiction runs in my family. While I have zero issues with others doing it. For me it may not end with just weed. Also, so we are clear I do NOT think weed is a gateway drug.
I say go for it if you think it will help. If your doctor can get you a card I say that's even better because you can decide what kind works best for you. If you do try it let me know how it works out. I am very interested to see if you feel better after. Positive vibes and love your way.

Thanks to you both! I have been smoking it the past couple days. My flare hasn’t subsided but it’s only been literally two days. I stopped smoking it for awhile (weed isn’t a new thing for me). One night I had some belly pain and that subsided and I have noticed less frequent bowl moments after smoking a lot yesterday, but There’s still blood so it’s hard to tell. Next time I see my doctor I’m going to ask her about a prescription. I’ll let you know how it goes! I’m very intrigued after reading some articles and I have a lot of hope in it, I truly believe it’s a miracle drug.
