I have been taking Lialda for about 4 weeks, for proctitis, and was wandering what's the longest anyone has ever taken this medication, and what were some of your side effects. Is this a safe , long term treatment? Before starting, my doc did blood test for comparison down the road to see it's effect.

I just started on that as well and my doctor said that its pretty safe. A lot safer than some of the other drugs out there. Its kind of like Asacol which everyone on here is familiar with.

I've been on lialda for 2 years. I started out at 1 pill/day and now am at the max dose of 4 pills/day. I have not had any side effects (that I am aware of). Although someone on here did mention to drink plenty of water while on lialda or you may end up with kidney stones. Could very well be true as I got kidney stones (for the first time) 5 months ago.

I'm not all that convinced it works very well for me. I seem to get better symptom relief from the canasa suppositories which I'm now on twice/day.

It's a form of mesalamine and the side effects are pretty mild/minor compared to many of the IBD meds. You do need to have your kidney function checked periodically though as it can cause kidney problems.
