Hi Does anyone have any ideas what works for a breakout under the tape of my bag? This sometimes happens in the summer when it is warm but that is not the case. It is bright red and is very sore. I have some cream from the store I buy my supplies but it doesn't seem to be working.

Hi there! I had made a posting on this site before about care & maintenance for appliances with a stoma and colostomy bag.... wish I could find you the link.
So anyways, I used to have a stoma with colostomy bag... and I had LOTS of tips that helped me get through those hard times.
As for your pain or breakout 'under the tape of the bag'.... DO NOT use any OINTMENT or OIL-BASED lotions/creams, etc. That will keep your appliance from properly attaching.
Because it's very sore, you could try (as I always suggest for this or a sore 'butt'), would be LANACANE at the local drug store/markets. It is a CREAM base of Hydrocortisone to help with pain and itchy/burning pain, and it also has a numbing ingredient to help with that ongoing pain (until the skin can heal properly).
Other things you MIGHT try... is making a paste out of oatmeal (gotta wait until it's cool or slightly warm), and you can apply that around the sore/red area... has natural healing agents inside....
Other people might suggest making a paste of baking soda to help neutralize the burning.... but depends on the person, could make things hurt more....
As far as when the skin heals.... I will try to find the posting I made, as I had really good info. on care of the stoma and 'appliances'.
Otherwise, just shoot me an e-mail... I just got off work (4am right now) at 3am.... so am kinda tired.

I had an irritation recently to the bag i was using so i tried a different bag and its helped. I would also reccomend using a skin barrier wipe i know Welland makes the ones i use but im in australia and we are lucky enough to get an allowance of any product a month. Coloplast, Dansac,Convetec and Holister are all bag makers and they all have their own products to help with any skin problems.
