I am the type of person that doesn't just stop at the answer my doctor gives me: (pop these pills twice a day, for the rest of your life). There is more. I have done so much research, that at this point, I probably know much more about this disease than my doctor did. I feel as though my doctor had already diagnosed me BEFORE he did my colonoscopy, and only did the colonoscopy to CONFIRM his already-made diagnosis. What he should have been doing, is performing the procedure with an open mind, looking for EVERYTHING that it could possibly be. Ulcerations are indicators of CD, yes, but there are many other things that can cause ulcerations. I am on a quest, and I'd like to invite all of you.
Recently, I started taking digestive enzymes with every meal. This has helped me significantly with digestion, and has also helped my mood. The enzymes discussed on that site are of two kinds, systemic and digestive. Systemic enzymes are taken on an empty stomach, and digestives are taken with meals. I have not started the systemic enzymes, but I most certainly am going to as soon as I can.
It makes sense: our intestines are wounded, they are damanged, and not performing their normal functions properly (mainly, absorbtion of nutrients from the food we eat)! Therefore, we are not absorbing the enzymes we need for normal every day bodily functions, for physical and mental energy, and to properly digest our food. Most of us aren't eating the foods to adequately get even half of what our bodies need.
This post is meant to open everyones eyes to enzyme thereapy. Please post a response, even if it is just to tell me that you read the article. I would like to hear everyones opinion. I would like to work together to help one another battle this health issue. It goes beyond Western medicine. There is no quick fix. It is going to be hard, but with support and team work I think we can do it.

I have not taken enzymes yet, why good question- you have me thinking..
what kind of probiotics are you taking? the one you take anytime or the one you take on an empty stomach?? I am doing the empty stomach one and wonder if I should be doing the other one called the Ultra..
Last June I was having some bad arthritis pain in my knuckles. I went to a health food store and the woman gave me serra peptase, she said it was an anit inflammatory enzyme with 0 side effecst. I started taking it and also cut out night shade veggies from my diet. The next thing I know my knuckles started to feel better and after a couple months my Colitis cleared up. I stopped taking the enzymes after 5 months. I was in remission for 8 months.
The bleeding has started again so today I am starting to take Udo Anti Inflammatory Enzymes.
The doctors had me on Salofalk and Asacol. At the time of my original enzyme treatment I stopped taking the prescribed meds.
I'll let u know how I make out with Udos....(I couldn't find the serra peptase)
