Hi everyone. I'm in pretty bad shape shape and need some help. The past week I have been admitted in the hospital with pressure in my chest and lungs, stiff neck, vomiting(the first time)ringing in the ears, and difficulty breathing when I lie down. They ran all sorts of tests and found nothing. I've been taking Lialda for about 5 weeks now and cortenema. I think I may be having a drug reaction. My doctor is horrible and I'll be switching ASAP. They sent me home both times with no answer. I have fever as we speak and the same syptoms. I stopped the Lialda today, so maybe it needs to get out of my system. Any ideas please let me know. I feel like I'm dying...with the uc sypmtoms to boot.
I would have suggested getting a throat culture... as you were almost describing a respiratory infection (fever/temperature, prssure in chest/lungs, stiff/aches, rining in the ears, and difficulty breathing.
But then doing a search for Lialda (MESALAMINE)... the side effects are EXACTLY as you've described!
My advice... get a 2nd opinion from another doctor... or ask someone on this site who's experienced this before with Lialda... but I would not stop taking the medication without proper medical advice...

Symptoms of overdose
- Confusion
- diarrhea (severe or continuing)
- dizziness or lightheadedness
- drowsiness (severe)
- fast or deep breathing

- hearing loss or ringing or buzzing in ears (continuing)
- nausea or vomiting (continuing)
Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. I had the same kind of reaction with azathioprine, it made me worse i was vomiting up bile and didnt know where i was VERY scary some meds just dont agree with some people and i always think you should trust your own gut instinct about these things. You just now when somethings doing you no good! hope your still well x
