I'm really sorry to hear that you are going through a tough time, but just know that you always have friends here at Daily Strength. I've only been using this website for about a month and I feel like I've made friends already. Sometimes this are the best friends to turn to in situations like these because they themselves have stomach problems and they can understand. I think since your friend keeps interrupting you and not letting you talk you should maybe send an e-mail, facebook message or text saying how you feel and that you would appreciate it if he could be there for you because you're going through a hard time. I think you should especially talk to your family if they are not supporting you, they should be the ones that are there for you the most. If your friend doesn't come around, then he obviously isn't a true friend, and don't blame this on your illness, even people who don't have health issues find out that their "true friends" really aren't "true friends." It's a part of life, I've ended a few friendships in high school before I was even sick because I've noticed they were turning into people that I couldn't trust or rely on. I think the best option for you is to maybe find a support group around your area so you can make friends who are in the same situations as you. I'm sure one of them would go with you for your infusions. I know there are websites out there that explains what family members should do, just research in Google. Hope this helps and good luck!! Keep your chin up!!!
Sorry to here about your friends actions. That is hard to deal with I know. There are compassionate people closer than you know. We listen well here. Sending a hug your way friend. We have walked in your shoes. I bet you will find some one soon that can relate to you and show some comfort. A good attitude is essential. A fake smile can fool you and might just bring a real smile in spit of your self.
Keep your head up as much as you can friend.
Having UC and Crohn's is kind of like being in the military; it's hard to discuss things with the 'civilians' including your own family.
I think you'll find among a bunch of us, there is a feeling that the people closest to us still don't really get it entirely and it's hard to explain it to them. Feeling alone isn't unusual among people with this disease (as you well know.) Feeling dissatisfied with doctors is, surprisingly, not unusual either.
Maybe you should just direct some of these people to this website, particularly the "I crapped my pants" thread. Let 'em get a dose of what life is like on our end in the form of everyone's most embarrassing moments. That oughta clarify it for them. And no, I'm not afraid of people seeing my most unpleasant moments. I figure it's educational.
