I am having surgery inn the new year. About 1 foot of small bowel will be removed. This is the only section in witch there is active disease, so the goal after surgery will be to not allow it to return. I am currently on prednisone. I will likely be on methotrexate after surgery. Any advice or similar stories would be appreciated. Thank-you.

Hello there, I'm new to the group, but I also was wondering about surgery. I've opened it up as an option, but I've read online that there is a 25% chance of some serious complications. That seems like a high probablity to me, and from what I've read after surgery you wont feel as you did before, but I'm wondering if the people here are happy with the results. This will sound stupid, but I've come to dread the things that aren't as painful to the body such as the frequency of movements, the urgency of movements, and the gas. I'm wondering if the people who have underwent removal have returned to the state they were before first contracting this disease?

I have heard that people keel better after surgery. They are going to remove the diseased section of my bowel, so the trick willn be to try to somehow make sure it does not return.This will be my first surgery. I hope it is the last.

I'm just here to wish you the best of luck. I understand that Crohn's and UC are two different beasts.

I pray that you have this surgery and your new meds work well. I also advise that you do a few you tube searches. There are a lot people that are sharing your experiences that are documenting them.
