My doctor put me on Remicade shortly after i was diagnosed. Of course when i showed up at the hospital i wasn't in the best shape. But my treatments have been a life saver for me.
Hope this helps
My son also has CD. We started with the slow, steady and mild route. None of the meds helped with the disease or the pain he was feeling. Four years in he started Remicade. Finally, something that actually worked to manage his pain. He looked good clinically too. Found out the CD was still not under control. Moved on to Humira. Same results. Now looking at Tysabri.
As far as side effects with Remicade and Humira, he's done really well. No side effects at all.
One thought for you, ask your doctor why he is suggesting Remicade. Most people don't go there until everything else has been proven ineffective for them.
Best of luck to you.
