Hi I'm not sure if you are concerned about not getting anesthetic for operation or not getting the operation . Depending what the operation is sometimes its not necessary to get anesthetic such as stents with angioplasty but they will not do something like amputate a leg without it .My dentists assistant said there is one guy who has to be put under for fillings lol no you're not crazy for thinking this but I do wonder what horror movie made you come up with this, anyhow when I had angioplasty done I sure am glad I was awake for it 13 hours of horrible pain gone in an instant and I got to visually see it happen I wouldn't have missed that for the world ...I may be a grown man but I was somewhere between laughing and crying it felt soooo good but the surgeon was threatening to put me under because I kept moving .I hope it goes well for you .

thanks for the reply. I asked b/c i want to have elective surger for a birth defect that I have. the surgery will require me to go under -- and i was just inquiring. but i did go to the american heart association and it stated that patients with artery stents need to wait a year before having surger

right thats due to bleeding because of blood thinners like ASA and Plavix . Dentist appointments I had to wait 6 months infact I was in so much pain and they didn't care I thought I'd show the doctor and headed straight from the hospital to the dentist so the hospital phoned ahead and told the dentist office to refuse me .I was forced to suffer for those six months with nothing but antibiotics lots of them ! and then when I finally got in I had to be off of the bloodthinners prior to each appointment it took from Nov until now to get all the work done . I really suffered lol anyhow I hope you're in the clear and don't have to wait .

Im going to wait for another 6 months to be on the safe side. AS far as the dentist goes, they refused to do any dental work until I took antibotics. So when I go for dental work I take amoxicilin (4 of them). Having CAD is a pain. I thought I was having heartburn and ignored it for about a week until I couldnt take it anymore. They [the cardiologists] have no idea why this happend. I was told I probably had a very narrow artery from birth. The right arter was completely blocked. Now I have to take these stupid pills everyday to prevet thrombosis. what a pain in hte neck....but hey we will survive

yes we will survive but wow what a roller coaster ride from day to day I've learned to knock on wood everytime I say to anyone I'm doing great which there are times I'm really doing superb but that can change so quickly lol btw thanks for joining my freind list people on the CHD community are generally very quiet .Which pills are you taking I'm on the basic Lopid , pariet , ezetrol for cholestrol... ASA and Plavix for blood thining... Altace for opening arteries... and metoprolol for slooooowing my heart down , oh and of course Nitro it makes me feel safe I rarely take it but it really works . Have faith I met an older guy who had a heart attack 19 years ago , he said he no longer takes anything for his heart not even ASA ...claiming it takes a long time but eventually you can wean yourself off . I don't think I'll ever be off of the ASA and metoprolol though we'll see this certainly is a pumpy path our bodies took in life . I look forward to when the ups and downs stop if they stop its financially draining . Cheers

I was taking metoprolol, niaspan, lipitor, plavix and assprin. Now I switched to crestor. taking plavix and asprin. when i had teeth work down 2 weeks ago. OMG my mouth was bleeding and bleeding and cloting like I ate jelly (it sounds nasty, Im sorry but it was) now im back to normal

oh thats not nice !I think you have to stop the blood thinners 5 days before dental work its a requirement I'm surprised the dentist or doctor didn't say anything btw something you and I probably don't really realize which I've thought about for quite some time is I don't think any of our teeth are going to last long and for the most part I think the dentists are in denial to think that our dry mouth symdrome is going to allow our teeth to last there is no way teeth can survive that . Its something to think about and I could be wrong but I just don't see how .

stupid me forgot to stop taking the meds before the work. I had to get a crown and had to get scaling. Before last year I had 3 teeth extractions and those didnt bleed to bad b/c I wasnt takin my meds for a long time

I think the only way we can keep our teeth is if we stopped the meds completely I know I'm to scared to but I feel like a hostage to this daily morning and evening pill popping session lol .

Hello. I had a stent inserted 4 years ago. I had to stay in the hospital for several days because they had to use iodine and I am very allergic to iodine and family. Prior to this angioplasty, I had to take 3 days of anti-allergy meds but I got thru it.

Didn't your surgeon give you a carry card from the stent manufacturer? It has a picture of the heart and the surgeon circled the area where the stent was placed. Also on the back of the card is a number for you to call the manufacturer with any questions. This helped immensely when I needed a mammogram. I had to have the manufacturer fax a confirmation to the radiologist that it was ok to do x-rays and such after 30 days of this insertion. I have had no more problems or needs but I very carefully watch my cholesterol levels. I got them from 350 to 124 and steady within a year by following a very strict diet and taking Niacin (OTC) instead of more prescriptions with my doctor's permission.
