Back in May, I agreed to mow the lawn for our 4-plex, about 2,000 square feet of mixed cool-weather grasses. It became a hobby, then an obsession. I spend between 30 and 90 minutes every day on it now, mowing, watering, seeding, feeding, weeding, pondering, and researching. Today it is raining, so I am posting about the lawn instead of working on it.

We had a hard freeze last week that killed most of the garden. The good thing is that it also killed the goosegrass. I did a pretty good job eradicating and replacing it with turf grass. Only a couple of noticable spots were totally killed by the frost.

Spring weather has arrived and the lawn looks fabulous. I pull a half-dozen weeds by hand every day, and it only needs watered and mowed once a week.

With summer coming on, the watering takes longer. Last week, I planted some hollyhocks that still haven't come up. The co-residents of the cluster are pretty good about helping keep the yard up, but a couple have dogs that are less cooperative.

A big pine tree in the yard drops a lot of needles and cones. I wondered whether a lawn broom would sweep them up, so I went to the hardward store that rents to see if they had one. They didn't have one to rent, but one they had for sale was $180. I was willing to try it by renting, but that was too much to spend on a faint hope. I ended up using a rake and "elbow grease' to clean up the year.

Winter is nearly here and the front is covered again with fallen leaves and pine needles. I wondeaer where they went in years before. The grass has stopped growing, so there's no mowing, but it needs a weed and feed treatment before the show falls,

I am in the market for a good inexpensive leaf blower. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Just thought I would join this group now that I am a widower. My wife passed away May 28th. She was "The Wind Beneath My Wings". When I met her, I was a drunken, dope smoking, fighting, hell raising biker. She told me if I could get rid of the inner storm within me, that I could be a blessing to people. God placed her in my path to stop me. I have been drug and alcohol free now for 53...

For westerners, this is the other side of the world, where everything is exotic and unfamiliar. Piracy is still a problem on the Java Sea, and English is not widely spoken. The Java Sea is about 1,600 km long, 400 km wide, and loiters loosely between the islands of Borneo to the north, Java to the south, Sumatra to the west, and Sulawesi to the east. The equator is a few degrees north, so...
