I have had family members use them at home for other conditons- my understanding is that it depends on the infection and antbiotic used- some respond better with the picc line than pills. To me, the good part is getting out of the hospital with the picc line- if you are comfortable taking care of it- Depending on insurance and overall health, some folks have to stay inpatient. Hope it works quickly for you!

I had a similar experience. I was glad to treat it at home. It just depends on what type of infection you have as to what will work
on a given infection.

check in with Bill, FLHAM49. I believe he is an outpatient for this procedure. i know what you're going through. i went 15 days of IV and pic withfpiggy backed antibiotics and preds. had a bad bout of pneumonia. hope the meds work.

i've never had a pic line
there was a couple of times that i have had the dr give me a shot in my behind & then followed up with pills.
& once in hospital i had IV antibiotics and then sent home with follow up pills.

when you say perscription drugs weren't helping do you mean pills? or all antibiotics? or what?
and what kind of medicine do you use in the pic that works better?

when i was a kid we always got shots & now days they always give pills so i asked my PCP why & if it was because pills worked better.
he said shot works better, but people don't like to get shots so they give pills.
wow! i'll take whatever works the best & fastest!!! so the pic is interesting to me if it works better and faster.

My dad had a picc line for a month for an infection. He hated having the nurse come over but it did seem to be better than pills for him, which cause him a lot of side effects. Sorry you had to go through this too. Booo! Hope you feel better soon!

My mother had a picc line a few years back for a severe infection. She spent 5 days in hospital & then they finally discharged her with this line. My mother is the biggest baby about sickness & she didn't even complain about it. The VON came every day to put the stuff in. It can't be all that bad if she put up with it.

Yeah, I've had a picc line for an infected cut on my hand some years ago. It's just so they don't have to put a new hole in you every time they run antibiotics into you which for me was twice a day for about 10 days. Just try not to catch it on anything.

geez, I would not like that either, but if it works better guess it would be worth it, hope you get better fast.
