I am on the same medications as you. I have not smoked in a month. I do have a spacer for my albuterol which like sassyme says helped. I wish I HAD a problem with taste of food. Instead I have noticed alot of different smells. I guess my nose is not stuffed up anymore. I have to make you laugh. For the pass couple of weeks and it get worst as the weeks go by. I smell something and I keep saying to my husband and everyone do you smell that?? I have to laugh there is not a day that goes by that I don't smell something whether it is a bad smell or good smell. I cannot believe this new thing I have. Some of it bothers me though. Smokers!!! I did not realize how bad we smelled. OH, have to mention cigar smokers UGH that one. If you are going to ask me if I am going to be one of those non-smokers who preach. NO I won't waste my breath, I did not listen to anyone and I am sure they are not going to listen to me.

I also use the Albuterol and You are right, it does taste funny, at least the new hfa inhalers do. The older type I feel did a little better job as far as getting way down into the lungs and did not have the after taste. As far as the food goes, sorry I can not help you there. When I quit smoking all food tasted better and I gained a whole bunch of weight. I also gargle if at home and use the icebreakers mints if i am out in public. it gets rid of the after taste. Ah yes, the chocolate !!!!!!

You need to make sure that you are rinsing your mouth thoroughly after you use your inhalers. That especially applies to advair because it contains an inhaled corticosteroid which if left in your mouth can cause thrush (yeast) infection.

Plain water works, as does mouthwash. My pulmo also recommends rinsing with very diluted vinegar water (about 1 tbsp vinegar to a cup of water). This will also help to keep the pH balance in your mouth so that you are less likely to get thrush.
