I hate to make you sad, but considering the title of your post, the best exercising would be walking!!
The legs have the larger muscles and you know unused muscles require more oxygen, and a person with copd needs most oxygen just to breath, (in later stages, and dependimg how the disease is progressing.
Perhaps you could use a treadmill, which seems easier to me because you have rails to hold on to.But do not do anything without consulting with your doctor.
you should have a pulmologist, not just a GP, because they are specialist in all lung diseases, and it would be great if he can get you in a pulmonary rehab program.
Also a stationary bike is good, hand weights are good, you will need to keep all your body fit, but especially the legs because if you lose use of them, you can't do anything. Good luck

Quitting smoking and daily exercise are the top two best things you can do for copd.
It`s good to have you all there ...thanks
Strength
Flexibility
Endurance
Strength: The stronger you muscles are the less oxygen they will need to do things therefore making breathing easier for you. Like they said about the leg muscles, they are the longest, you want them strong.
Flexibility: Remain flexible.
Endurance. The more you walk, cycle, ect. the futher you can go.
I walk 15 minutes, have a peddler that I do for 5, do resistant band exercises for 5 min. and an online youtube exercise program for COPD from You Tube for 6 min., there are several of them for 5 min. I do this at least 5 days a week. That gives me a 30 min. workout and I'm not bored doing one thing.
Good Luck to you,\
Shirley
I can still dance a little and I used to love dancing so sometimes I just put on a good CD and get to move other muscles too. I keep 3 lb weights on the side of my desk and use those while paying bills. Each bill paid is a "weight" off from my shoulders?
I had pulmonary embolisms before I was dx with COPD so I have that as a reason to try and stay fit even though I am going to be 75 this year as well.
Good luck to you. Cindy
