To visit or not to visit a friend with bronchitis

A good friend of mine, actually one of a very few people still around/in touch with from my youth is having some problems with bronchitis. He's had 2 good flare ups since december and is pretty miserable about it Is this a place I should avoid? I'm expecting so but thought I should ask the pros here anyways. I do know he just finished a round of tetracycline a day or 2 ago.

Personally, I will not deliberately be around anyone who is sick. For us, even a cold can become much more.

And, are you sure he would even want visitors? I know when I'm feeling miserable, the last thing I want is to be forced to visit with someone.

Bronchitis can be both, contagious and non-contagious depending upon the cause of the bronchitis.

"Infectious bronchitis, i.e. those caused by viral infections or bacterial infections is contagious. These infections result in acute bronchitis or acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis. Chronic bronchitis is a very different disorder and it is non-contagious. However, acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis caused by superimposed infection in people with chronic bronchitis might be contagious."

I guess you need to find out if it is Infectious or Chronic Bronchitis to know whether you can visit your friend or not. Hope this helps!

yeah, I think it's just best to wait till it clears up some. He's going back to the docs on monday so I'll get him to ask his doc.

Zig, I am going to jump on the wagon and suggest you hold off on the visit. It just seems like you could be inviting trouble. Please take care, Bill

just curious; you said your friend has had 2 "flare ups" of bronchitis since december....does he have COPD/bronchitis?
i personally would put off a visit as everyone else suggested.
i'll put your friend in my prayers.

Hey Zigster - your a target and I'd stay away - however a friend is a friend and I'd stay in touch by phone to show some concern.

You're keeping a friendship and staying healthy and he probably already understands. /h/

You met them everywhere.I for one take a very good care of my self
but I refuse to stop living.

If it is very important to visit your friend it is up to you to decide.
