Wow, 98 years old.! Well, I work in the hospital system and I know the protocols we use so I can recommend using the face mask. These are usually out in the open and visible but if you don't see them ask for one. Also infectious disease wards and rooms lab type coats or occasionally disposable paper clothes covers are used, ask for one if you're concerned. Don't touch anything you don't need to and keep your hands away from your face. Then use the alcohol hand cleaner from time to time and before you leave. When you get home change clothes and wash the dirty ones if you're wanting to be really careful.

remember too, that your mom isn't the only contagious one in the hospital!
I'd wear a mask the whole time you are in the hospital.

when i have to go places like that i carry the sanatizer wipes in my hand & use them like a glove to open doors & anything I have to touch with them.

I would think that your mom won't be contagious by the time she gets home. 98! wow! My prayers are with her.

That's a tough one. I avoid hospitals as much as I possibly can because I'm paranoid about all those germs floating around. I do think zigzaag has some really good advice, though. Bless your heart for wanting to be with your mom...
