The PREVNAR Pneumonia Vacine

Hi everybody,

I was curious if anyone has had the Prevnar pneumonia shot. My pulmo in 2011 gave me the common pneumonia shot and in 2015 my pulmo in NH wanted to give me the Prevnar but my insurance didn't cover it and I wasn't about to spring for the $200 discounted price my hospital wanted. I have had a few bouts with Pseudomonas pneumonia and wonder if I did take the Prevnar shot, that this would be helpful in the fight with this particular pneumonia. Well my regular pulmo quit last month and my new pulmo said no to the Prevnar. Any thoughts?

My internist requested I get a Prevnar 13 vax. which helps protect us from 13 of the most common & damaging infections which also includes blood/vascular infections. I did Prevnar 13 yesterday and in 6-10 months I will have my Pneumovax boosted. The guidelines for elderly & disabled were revisited March 2015. I saw my doc in May 2015...he's on top of things..kinda builds my confidence in him.
. I feel a bit funky today following the injection.....but HEY ~!...when do we have a day we don't feel funky ? LOL
My medicare advantage policy paid in full and the receipt said my insurance saved me $225.00. Wow !

Don't you just tire of all the $$%##$@ hoops - Geez!

I believe my doc is on top of "my things" also. So I dutifully got the injection and I will get in line again when my doc "calls." I too have Medicare advantage which paid in full.

Your new pulmo said no? and the reason is? You should also re-check your coverage - just to make sure - rejection is a part of the game, but it is often modified.
