I will also follow this conversation, I use both Advair and Spiriva, without incident (at least in my mind) but recent changes to my voice force me to look at this again.

I have been to the ENT and thank god he see's nothing going on in the throat. Regards, Bill

I'm fortunate not to have to use any of these meds permanently - yet?? Dr prescribed Beclate (for astma) inhaler, but I rarely use it. Talking on the phone has been a real dilemma for me for a while.Usually get a coughing fit and have to cut conversation short.

For me, talking on the telephone is most difficult & I avoid it.

Good discussion. Talking runs me down also, whether in person or on the phone - If i'm not careful. We breathe less when we talk. Otherwise there would be a pause between parts of our sentences. I need to control how I speak and remember to stop to breathe. Otherwise I run down just like a windup toy...

I hate to talk on the phone...........but I do notice that I often get short of breath just talking to my hubby, or when I am at work to my co worker.............I won't be doing anything else..............just talking.......maybe I am just talking too much????????? LOL

Bill, I'm so glad your ENT found nothing in your throat.

I am very sad to discover that talking is going to keep on wearing me out. I'm not a big talker but I definitely love talking to my grandkids on the phone. I guess I will just monitor myself closer when talking.

I really hate this stinkin' disease.

My husband is hard of hearing and anything I say to him I have to repeat. I get so annoyed because it took enough breath for me to speak so when I have to repeat I have to speak louder. It's just the way it is.

Katesgirl you are so right. It is just the way it is. I have felt a personal pity party coming on for a few days. So I just threw it this morning. I'm so glad I found you all. I know our relationships are virtual, but damn they mean a lot to me. :)

I know how that is Kates. One of my roommates is doing the "huh?" thing to everything I say or when I answer one of her questions. I got to the point where I refuse to repeat myself anymore and when she says HUH?, I just move my lips and mime talking to her. Eventually she'll get the idea that maybe a hearing aid would help the situation. I've also told her I'll put velcro on the bottom of her shoes and stick her to the carpet, but that's another story.

Same thing here. Have a friend who I go to dinner with. We are known to talk for hours afterwards and the next day I feel like I've run a marathon, even when I stop and catch my breath! She's such a dear...lost her daughter to lung issues at 17, so understands our situations so well.

And laughing? Well, that can cause a big coughing fit!

Don't think it has anything to do with the Spiriva...just our crappy lungs!

What a novel idea. I think I will try that with my husband. I am soooo tired of repeating myself. When I raise my voice he always says I have an attitude. I just wish he would go to an ENT and get his ears checked. He is so afraid that he may have to have a hearing aid.

Also, I get very tired when I have to talk for long period on the phone or in person. Shucks, I get tired just doing anything anymore.

I have to laugh,, I am the one who says "Huh" but my sweetie is soft spoken and is usually facing away when he'll say something. Yes,,, my ears are not as good as they used to be,, too many tooth/sinus/ear infections over the years. I don't seem to have a problem talking,,, people think I talk too much,, and as for tired,,, well, I am always tired. I do need to go to an ENT,,, I've had a feeling of something stuck in my throat for years,,, have GERD too.

I am on both Spiriva and Advair 500/50. It is hard for me to talk very long; as I do get tired. I get frustrated when I am SOB, and others have gotten angry at me for not answering them. At the time, I can not breathe, and am trying to remain calm and do pursed lip breathing------
while being criticized for not answering or responding to conversations quickly enough. I have explained this to people I am close to. They seem to forget; and get angry at me anyway.
I feel sad for all of us; as we are doing the best we can, and sometimes we grow tired (even exhausted) from simple things like talking on the phone, or in person. Best wishes to all.
