I watched it. It was long. Dramatic difference in that man who could hardly breath, before & after the surgery. Dunno if the risks outweigh the benefits. If the results lasted more than 3-5 years it would be more attractive. Wish they could just stop the progression. Digit posted something about the stent stuff a while back. Dunno looks weird:>)

The IBV Valve System which is less invasive than the LVR surgery.

IBV Valve System is designed to work using the same principle as LVRS in that the air is redirected to a healthier part of the lung and the bad part of the lung behind valve collapse leaving more space in the rib cage for the good lung to expand, which results in easier breathing.

We have a few people on this site who have had the LVRS who are living what sounds like pretty darn good lives since their surgery.

We also have people on this site who have been in the IBV studies who are also reporting successful out comes.

Most people who opt for this surgery are struggling to breath each breath, even at rest like the man in the video and they are finding great success.

This is my understanding of LVRS surgery and the Valves .

I hope others who have had the surgery or the Valves would respond to this.

I also hope everyone with Emphysema will watch the video.

I think I would be more interested in the IBV valve system. They can be moved or removed. Sounds a lot less invasive too. Deb

Yes it is great they can move and remove IBV valves.

I know they are using the Valves for lungs that are leaking air.

Are the IBV valve approved by FDA for Emphysema Patients now, or do we only have LVRS available to use at this time.

The only information I found was that the trials for IBV valve not accepting any patients at this time.

Does anyone know?

I always want to learn, and I am always searching for information, for my self and also for all of you, because I care.

I know it can be scary some of this information, but its also offering help for so many.

The doctor in the video said that LVRS extends life expectancy and patients go from low fev1 to much higher fev1.

Patients go from breathless to breathing.

So this is not a bad news, its a good news for many.

This was an excellent video. Thank you for sharing it with us. He sure clarified a lot of things in my mind. On your comments about the benefit from the IBV valve. He did make mention on this and said they were not very effective, he called it bronchoscopy surgery, Spiration is one vehicles for IBV valves. I myself went through the entire trial and was in the placebo group as was Anna with an option to get them at a later date. This gentleman said that they are not seeing very positive results from these valves. He showed pictures of them and made mention of Spiration. I was glad to hear this (not glad they they were not effective) because I will now not consider them as a option for myself. .

I hope the doctors and researchers find an easier way to reduce the lungs for us.
