Have not had a stress test but I can see where your coming from as the other stuff I'm also dealing with. I'm being tested for going on a transplant list and "the walk" is my hold up. I'm about to see someone about my stress issues. I am on meds for stress but only does so much. I talked to the lung transplant people and stress is a common problem. I've tried the walk 5 times, did it once. All I can say is talk to your doc about it..... good luck

I'm having a chemically induced stress test, because of my severe arthrtitis. They give you some type of medicine that raises your heart rate, so they can test you as if you were walking, and doing all that other stuff.

Maybe if you explain your anxiety issues, they may let you do that instead?

I also have had a chemical induced stress test. Could not take the treadmill. I also could not handle the machine you had to go into to check your heart they had to use ultra sound machine. I can't be in a closed up area

I had the stress test a long time ago, but for what ever reason they are not making me do it this time for transplant. However the 6 minute walk is going to be done, and soon. It is not so bad, it is without oxygen, and the girl walks with you, as slow as you want to go, and you go as far as you can then she sets you down and gives you oxygen,sometimes you do a nebulizer treatment, and do the walk again, but not always, just what ever the doctor orders. I am lucky, as I get one right after I am thru with rehab, then one for the transplant people!!!

ps, talk to the doctors about the stress test. I had the treadmill kind and the chemical kind, both years ago, so it can be done.

YES YES YES ..... ask your doc for a chemical stress test. Your body goes through everything just as if you were on the treadmill. But, if I had it to do all over again ..... I'll have the regular walking treadmill version. I had a bad reaction to the chemicals they used. The lucky part? I was in a hospital for the test, thank God!

I don't think I can do the chemical stress test because the test is to determine how much exercise I can do in rehab.

I have had both..The stress is for the heart..If you are on oxygen you will use it for both test..They will not push you further than you can go.They will ask you constantly if you are ok and you will also be connected to machines that will show them if you are in distress..They will know before you...I think stress and anxiety is our worse enemies. ..take care. My chemically induced stress test was weird. My head felt tingly, and my face too! LOL!! I felt my heart beating, it was so weird to hear it that loud! But, I survived it, and was good, except she couldnt' find a vein, and then the one she found blew up, so she had to poke me again.

I guess as you get older, and have more IV's put in you, the harder it is to find them??? After being hospitalized twice in the last 6 months, i guess my veins were used up pretty good.

Anyhow, it was a weird test, but I'm glad it's over, and i got the good results. Now to tackle the COPD....i'm so sick of having this oxygen...Trying to go without at times, to wean myself...but still having SOB....Maybe the longer i'm not smoking, the stronger my lungs will get. Also going to look into Pulm. Rehab...I need something to get my breathing back!!!
