hi all,
I joined a couple of weeks ago and have been reading most of the entries. I have been reading articles, watching videos and looking at international clinics that stem cell therapy is offered for COPD. I was wondering if anyone in this support group has had stem cell therapy or know of anyone that has?
I quit smoking over 2 years ago and at this point I will try most anything to regain even 20% more of my lung capacity. I'm not even 60, have always been active and never overweight and feel I have alot left to offer when it comes to my career as an ocean captain.

I think the lung stem cell research is still in embryonic stage or at least not yet ready as a guaranteed medical procedure.
There is lots of info on this dated 2011, on the www and posted here and in other copd forums. It does sound very promising and we are all hoping for further developments on this.

An article from Medicine Net (2011) states there is still a lot of work to be done and they are talking years of further study and testing before initiating a Phase I clinical trial even.

I don't know of anyone who has had the procedure. Hopefully it will be something that becomes more predominant in modern day medical procedures.

Oh I'm sure they will have a preventative cure for COPD in the future. Hopefully we'll see it in our time here on Earth, but I know my son will definitely see it. I hear they even started putting stints in the air sacs or collapsed airways to the air sacs. Anyone hear of this procedure?
Keep excercising, good food, positive mind...we'll beat this. Hell, we shoulda never started smoking! Thats the cure. Wudda, shudda, cudda....
If so there has not been enough media coverage. I believe that the adult stem cells research is advancing faster than previously and I also think that some have been having this done in other countries.
Our research, while thorough, also encounters a lot of bureaucratic red tape. I appreciate that the FDA is an agency for oversight but they do cause a lot of slow down. Guess it is only a priority if you have one of the diseases that you may be voting to extend the research.
Guess this is my day to be cynical but just spent the last couple of weeks fighting one bureaucracy after another.
I am going to be quiet now. :)))
