COPD & Emphysema Support Group
COPD is a progressive disease characterized by airflow obstruction or limitation. Emphysema is characterized by loss of elasticity of the lung tissue, destruction of structures supporting the alveoli and of capillaries feeding the alveoli. Both have symptoms that include shortness of breath, among other respiratory troubles. If you are a COPD or Emphysema sufferer, join...
SOB happens when your heart can not get enough oxygen pumped thru your body, especially your lungs, so it works harder and you get more short winded with the exertion such as walking.
If you were prescribed oxygen, you should use it as prescribed, and report the sob to your doctor so he can evaluate you. You may need it more often.
I would wait on the antibiotic, to much is not a good thing, and unless you are coughing up colored mucus, or have an infection, it does no good and can cause the germs to become resistant to it. Now please take the advise of your doctor not me. This is just my thoughts on it.....
Hope you get better

I could be wrong, but this does not seem to be the way it should be used, it is doing you no good this way. You have to keep a constant (as you can) level of oxygen in your body so as not to harm other vital organs.
Your SOB means it is dropping to a dangerous low, and you may feel better after a few whiffs, but it needs to be constant not just when you get sob.
I will let someone else chime in here, because that may be the way it is used sometimes.
Take care of your self, and please see the doctor if it continues, and tell him .....

Being short of breath has nothing to do with the need or not of oxygen.
Be on the safe side. Even if you have to use an emergency room or clinic.
I hope you get to feeling better

BIG mistake!!!!!!!......Guess I got sick............one night o2 level dropped to 65....I had one 4 hour rescue tank here.thank God........prolly saved my life...............went to hospital next day (should have went that night)......and spent 2 days..............(no insurance here, so for them to keep me is saying sumptin:)
Anyway...I also have CHF and PH...............I have come to realize that my SOB is not always caused from my COPD........I think its more with my other issues....my o2 level can be acceptable, but I will be so SOB it hurts to walk:(:(
I use my o2 every night now and often during the day..........but never go without it at night anymore..............I felt good for maybe 4-6 weeks without it......then all shit hit the fan...................Please don't let this happen to you!!!!
I still haven't recovered:(:( Antibiotics may help clear the infection.............but what about the inflammation?????????? Are you on steroids too??
The BEST advice will come from your doc:):)
Best of luck.................
You take care of your self and don.t take on so much that you might get sever SOB. I have been preaching to everyone, pace your self...there is nothing in this world important enough that it can.t be delayed. except taking care of children.
God bless you Cap, and I hope you continue to feel better, and please remember to mention the sob to your doctor next check up, or if it gets worse, just so he can be aware, but it sounds like you have a plan going on!!Keep that faith and positive attitude.
Blessings to you
