Well, I went and the first visit was a test on a computer, or rather a series of tests. They gave us 2 hours to complete it and even tho it reads like it is so easy. there are lot of trick questions. The doctor was very nice, but also be aware that everything you say to him, or on the test will be shared with your transplant doctor. They have decided that I am not ready for transplant because, I have a lot of anxietes, and do not have a good family support. Transplant bases this on the dr's notes and test results. I was rather stunned to say the least, after months of testing, bloodwork,urine tests, feces tests, rehab, heart, liver, lungs, kidneys. all this and now because I am a little worried about the operation, I am not ready. I have a daughter here, Mark takes me to every appointment, ...OH sorry, I kind of went off there. I am not out, just not ready..it is all good..
It will be your normal psych meeting, after he gets the result of your test, you will go back and he will go over your answers asking you about them and giving you a chance to explain.Then he will make a report to the Transplant doctor.

My husband needed a liver kidney transplant and like Brenda we went through all the tests, the last one was psych. After 2 days of running around like crazy I was tired and frustrated. They said they didn't feel I would be a good support for my husband and I was with him every appointment, test, always. I was the one who took care of him and it made me mad. So please make sure you have a good support system in place. There was a clause in the insurance that they wouldn't pay for the liver if he was over 18 years of age. I really in my heart believe that had a lot to do with it. Good luck to you and I thought we did good but I guess they didn't see it that way....

i have my bachelor degree in psychology and while in school i was able to take some of the tests so of course i tried "honest" answers & what "i thought" i should answer.
the ones "i thought" they'd want to hear, weren't (my over-thinking has always screwed me up & this proved it LOL)
just be yourself and answer honestly, faking answers usually ends up screwing you up in these tests more than helping (and any good psych will expect you to be nervous about a decision as big as this)

A member of our group, Pattiruf had a lung transplant. She wrote a running journal of her experience throughout the entire process. She has left her journal open for all to see. She wanted to make available her experience to others that may follow her. She is an excellent writer and has done an excellent job documenting her experience. I would start about 12/2010. I just read through it for the 2nd time and it truly is an eye-opener.

At my age I don't think this will ever be a issue I have to deal with. We recently lost my sister-in-law who had a liver transplant about 1992. I know they struggled hard financially because the anti-rejection drugs are hugely expensive but there have to be programs out there to help with that issue and it certainly should not come into play should you get on the list. I know she met with a shrink before hers but the transplant got her almost 20 years of absolute quality life before she passed away at 65. Hepatitis caused her original liver failure and I believe aging was the only cause for her passing. The organ simply failed gradually.

I am in error. December 26, 2009 is when she starts her adventure and journaling the transplant experience. That is the important year to read.

Done that @ B/W Hosp in Boston. I just went in upbeat and waz honest about everything, Was get'n fuzzy after a couple of hrs but found out that when I changed my O2 tank I forgot to turn it on....
They asked if I owned a gun which I thought was very uncalled for, but other then that it was boring.
Was in one in New York for my daughter that was 4 hrs. Lots of stupid questions but learned later they were interested in my reaction rather then the ans.
